Have to slowly add. Try not to use life sand. Had experence adding life sand all at 1 go. end up killing some life stock. Recently created a refugium using live sand for refugium. Even though I add slowly (subjective), End up killing 1 wrasse and cause another wrasse to have inflection.

Think if there is really a need.

In a dilemma now....

Was hoping to increase depth further since most of my fine sand is blow on one side by the wavemaker....

HOpe to get bigger one to cover back the blown away sand.

I think it is due to life sand having bacterial and fish are not used to the sudden change. Not very sure. This one is personal experience. Kana twice with nothing else changed other than the life sand and the live sand i use are the "famous" onces so cannot be contaminate.

You can try, but add slowly. Dun one shot add 1 packet :)

Recently i just put a sand to my tank, at first no sand at all.. but before i put in the live sand, i remove all the rock and catch all the fishes... after i place the sand and the rock, i let the tank run for 2 hours before adding all the fishes in( of course 1 by 1) all of them doing well now.. but who knows just the 4th day.
