What is the best position for the tank wall being drilled? I mean can you do it with the tank wall vertical and drill as if you're drilling a hole in your house wall? Or do you have the place the tank flat on the ground (on a piece of wood) and drill downwards? What about pressure -- can apply pressure or let the drill's rotating force work its way through?

I'm trying to setup a sump and feel that an IOS will take up too much space in the tank (mine is a 2' curved custom tank, inherited from a friend). Not to mention the extra protrusion inside an otherwise clean tank. So thinking of drilling a hole on the back of the tank, 2" from the top rim and connect it to the sump. Anyone tried this? Got any pics to show?

any position will do..just make sure the aligment is right..

meaning when drilling,it get all surface..don't apply to much presure

when drilling..

drilling a hole at the back of the tank and fix up a durso at the back will be better.
