Compressor Chiller

Dear fellow hobbyist,

I have some questions in regards to compressor type chiller.

Currently there are 2 types of coil,

1) rubber insulated copper coil

2) titanium coil

Could anyone enlighten me on the difference between this 2?

I have some conflicting information from the 2 types of coil, one compressor dealer shared with me that titanium coils are problematic and it's hard to replace. He sounded like many people who previously installed titanium coil were running into problems and it could not be rectified. Thus he suggested I use the insulated copper coils

Another dealer suggested that I used the titanium coil as no insulation is required as titanium is reef safe, thus cooling will be faster and more efficient.

Anyone can share their experience with me?

copper is corrosive therefore insulated or coating needed.. Some suggested routine Visual Inspection required... and it is much cheaper than titanium....

titanium corrosion resistance is higher than others.. but price is very Ex....

What are the pros and cons if my titanium chiller shares a compressor with my aircon versus the chiller having its own compressor?

For compressor, it must be non inverter and when it start, it will start with full load. For tank, usually is 1hp and for house unit, usually higher. Thus, if u connect to yr hse unit compressor, higher power consumption which might not be economical.

Tank : 4 X 2 X 2 with low iron front panel and external overflow

Skimmer : BK SM200 with waste collector

Return Pumps : Red Dragon 6m3 and Ehiem 1262

FR : 2 X Deltec 509 & powered by AB2000

Nitrate Filter : Deltec NF 509 and tee off from AB2000

Calcium R'tor : Deltec PF 501 with RM secondary chamber

Kalkwasser R'tor : Deltec KM500

Chiller : Pansonic 1 HP Compressor with 20m titanium Coil

Wave Makers : 4 X Tunze 6055 with 7096 & Vortec MP40w

Controller : GHL Profilux

Lighting : ATI Powermodule 10 or 8 tubes

Water Top-up : Water Top-Up tank powered by Tunze Osmolator

External Monitor : American Pinpoint pH and Temp. Monitor for main tank and GHL Profilux Controller to measure temp, pH, Redox

Ozonizer : Sander C50

UV : Corallife 6x

Thanks solo for your reply, so it's really more of a economical issue?

supposedly if i have 2000l in terms of total volume, would a 1hp still be enough? under such circumstance, would it make more sense to connect it to the house compressor?

2000l, that's big, yr coil must be big. 1hp might not be enough. Best is check with the specialist. . I can only say 1hp with 20m ###### coil can support my near 800l tank(including sump).

I called my chiller dealer and also the LFS shop that is doing my set up.

Both said that 1 hp is doable, just that it will take longer to chill the tank down for the kick in, afterwhich is alright.

The LFS doing the setup suggested having a 1.5 might be better as it chill down the tank faster and thus the compressor doesn't need to work so hard. Does this mean the it is more energy efficient?

Would you guys recommend me to get a 1hp or 1.5hp compressor in this case?

For compressor, the hP is important but contact surface for the coil and water should be important as well. U may need to seek more opinion.
