SRC Member dradttg Posted December 24, 2003 SRC Member Share Posted December 24, 2003 I have a 2 ft tank with 2 Cleaner shrimps and 1 Fire shrimp. I have sighted about 3 - 4 crabs in my tank but they did not do anything to my cleaner shrimps. I dont think the crabs will do anythings to your cleaner shrimps, the irritating part is that they dig holes in your LR and move your small corals. SRC Member Atreef Posted December 24, 2003 SRC Member Share Posted December 24, 2003 I found after adding LR to have 2 hairy crab and 1 crab in orange/red in colour. Is it safe to have cleaner shrimp with them in my tank ? Last time have a cleaner shrimp kena killed by a mantis shrimp ! ok, i used to have this problem too.Lets assume you are refering to those crabs. Crabs dun do much harm to your LS when small, but they may damage your fishes fin when your fishes rest in cave at night. As they grow bigger, those smaller size fishes will be in danger. However having a few in your tank is ok cos when your fishes died, they quickly feed on the dead body. I read from some thread that using chicken essence bottle is ideal for catching crabs, i myself have caught 3-4 including a hairy one all using the bottle. Just cut a small piece of market prawn and place it in the bottle then you place the bottle slightly against your LR or the place where you saw the crabs. As the interior of the bottle is smooth, they cant escape after falling in. A point to note that you may need to isolate your Fire ,Cleaner or Boxer Shrimps should you have any cos they may drag the prawn out and eat
SRC Member Atreef Posted December 24, 2003 SRC Member Share Posted December 24, 2003 my cleaner shrimps dun do anything to my corals....... The cleaner shrimp doesnt do anything to coral but sometimes it may step on it should some food get stuck on the coral. Generally most of your fishes will stop at Cleaner Shrimp "station" and the Cleaner Shrimp will "service" its mouth, tail and body looking for parasites
SRC Member blacknails Posted December 24, 2003 SRC Member Share Posted December 24, 2003 Yeah Cleaner Shrimps rock....
SRC Member flubberina13 Posted December 24, 2003 SRC Member Share Posted December 24, 2003 Maybe the same hackneyed advice... Do remove the 'hairy scary' crabs before putting in the cleaner shrimps and fire shrimps are good w the latter although I can't say likewise for the boxer shrimps as I saw them attacking my cleaners...
