DIY Air Dryer/Filter

Greetings,

The purpose of this air dryer is for my Sander 200mg ozonizer. Drying air improves the efficiency of the ozone output and for some cases, prolong the age of your ozonizer.

Though its not really necessary to have an air dryer but i still wanted to make one to filter the dust off air to make it more of "maintainence free" for me.

Picture of Sander 200mg. I had used some China branded ozonizer but finally settled down with a german Sander brand for its build and known durability. Furthermore, ozone is a dangerous element to add into the our water, so its better to get a reputable one.

You can see the membrane filter of the Sander after removing the nozzle, the cool white membrane acts as an air filter and prevent water from sipping through. Acts as an prevention for water damage. But the down side of this white membrane is that you need to constantly wipe out the dust as it can trap alot of dust there, choking the nozzle and thus decreasing your ozonizer's efficiency.

Pic of the ozonizer's filter membrane. Notice the dark spots of dust accumulating.

Genesis 1:20

And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that has life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven. And God created great whales, and every living creature that moves, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good. And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth. And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.

There's many version you can DIY your dryer with, but this is mine.

Things you need:

Some Eggcrates:

A clear PVC pipe of 40-45cm (for easy view of within as the silicon beads will change color after exhaustion):

First, drill one hole on one of the end cap and a couple of holes on the other one.

DSC_0920.JPG

For the endcap with only one hole drilled, a short(1") hard airline tube was glued into the hole.

DSC_0941.JPG

Next, cut a small portion of the eggcrate and insert it into both of the endcap. The purpose of this is to prevent the cotton wool for choking the holes and allow more even of air distribution through the tube. you will notice that the eggcrate is not flushed completely to the end of the end cap.

DSC_0928.JPG

Attached one of the endcap to the clear PVC pipe with one ball of filter wool in it and pour the drying beads into it.

Attached the last remaining endcap to the clear pvc pipe and this will be the end product:

The complete installment will be as shown:

Tip: Don't glue the endcaps. This is for you to be able to change ur drying agent and filter wool in the future easily.

And the clear PVC won't be able to take too much heat, so don't put it into the oven. if want to dry the agent, simply remove the endcap and pour the drying agents onto a container and sent it for a heat treatment.

the drill bit i used is 6mm for the hard airline tube.

Hey Milchy,

gum sia.

How long does the silica gel last? I find silica gel loses its absorption quite fast and turn pink in a short while.

Hi Thexder,

yeah, its annoying. it lasted me about 4 days on a 500g of Silicon gel. These 4 days were raining heavily. Hope it can last a week on "normal weather".

My advice is to use as much silicon gel as possible if you are setting a DIY. :peace:
