hi derrick,

the first 2 pics shows the detestable aiptasias. try to remove them as much as you can. cos they are anemones and multiply very quickly. they grow quite large too. make a search in the forums and i'm sure you'll find lots of threads regarding that issue.

3rd and 5th pic not clear

4th pic is encrusting porites which is not harmful.

Any ideas on how best to remove these aiptasias? I think I might have the same problem (as I am also new at this) so any advbice would be immensely helpful!

the yellow patches and red patches seems to be some kind of sponge if im not wrong...

IMO, unknown 3 is definitely a sponge. the best way to get rid of aiptasia is to use a syringe, fill it up wif residue liquid from ur kalk, pump it directly onto the aiptasia. but do take note not to harm other corals while doing this.

I'm a newbie. Can I ask why is aiptasias detestable? And does the usual method of curing the LR takes care of this problem?

hmm..i took out the rock with aiptasias detestable, dig on that portion with a chopstick until there is a hole (the hole is there anyway) manage to dig out a black piece of something. washr with tapwater .....put it back for about 2 days....nothing came back yet...hope it's gone.........better be safe.... dig out the roots!

anyway....are those orange, white, blue thick "strings" ok to leave it there, else have to get my hand wet again

they are supposedly pest anemone that spreads like wild fire and stings every other thing along the way.

the rest of the pictures are all sponges. just pull out those tube anemones.

well u need not be so troublesome..

just use a inject hot water into the aiptasias will do..

this will comfirm kill it clean...

like your method..

if any part of the aiptasias were to be broken they will grow back and worst become even more and cover more area...
