pweesng
Hi guys, Previously, if anyone rememebrs, i was lookign for a purple tang. anyway, found a lot in CF over the weekend, and managed to buy one for myself, after a long wait! had a bit of chat with the auntie while she was packing it as well. this is what she told me. The water with fishes has copper added to it. The reason is because they will get in to trouble if the fish or water goes into Europe has disease in them. I actually collected water from those tank, and i added a cucumber and starfish. she had to wash the starfish and cucumber and repack them in other water. i used to jsut throw everything, including their water into my tank. now i know not to do so. If i had SPS, they will all be gone. I hope it doesn't sound like i am bad mouthing CF, but i just want to warn others who are as careless as me to watch out for it.... Best is to get the auntie to catch the fish for you. Which is what she recommend I do next time... for Corals, she say it is okay to catch it yourself
Solo77
nice to know you got your fish. Advice to all is ask in future whether the water the shop used to pack your fish can be poured into your tank directly. SRC Member BFG Posted July 19, 2010 SRC Member Share Posted July 19, 2010 The best practice is not to add lfs water into your tank period. It's due to this reason and other such as spreading disease, algae spore, aiptasia spore and what not. Never, ever add lfs water into your tank. pweesng
I got this idea, Next time i intend to buy any fish, i'm gonna pack some water and bring it along... Start acclaimtizing the fish straight out of the shop's tank

SRC Member LaW Posted July 20, 2010 SRC Member Share Posted July 20, 2010 purple tang comes from the red sea as far as i know. Quote If a man could beat his own fantasy. Then to only breed in captivity. Then its pointless. Genesis 1:20 And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that has life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven. And God created great whales, and every living creature that moves, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good. And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth. Senior Reefer yikai Posted July 20, 2010 Senior Reefer Share Posted July 20, 2010 purple tangs are found only in the Red sea all the way to the persian gulf. Randall, J.E. and C. Anderson cited the sightings of purple tang in Maldives in 1993. However, those may be waifs from red sea as i've never heard of purple tangs coming from maldives as far as i know. i'm not an ichthyologist, however. The only shipment you can obtain purple tangs from in Singapore, is the red sea shipment.

SRC Member dreamlover Posted July 21, 2010 SRC Member Share Posted July 21, 2010 The best advise is no matter which LFS u brought the fish or coral from, don't add it into the tank.
OooFishFish
I used to pour everything into the tank thinking it is clean water to top my tank. haha. learned some stuff from this thread
