They carried out a chemical analysis on the stalks of these marine plants, which enabled them to identify the sources of natural and man-made trace metals over the past 30 years in the Mediterranean. This study shows that seagrass meadows can be used as an alternative tool for studying environmental conditions of the past as part of the research into climate change.
