Took a test last Sunday. Calcium was 420. Did nothing to the tank and calcium increased by itself to 500. Is it possible? And what is the cause?

I have no Calcium reactor, JBJ 28g tank with biohome at the back IOS.

Fed twice since Sunday with mysis and some pellets.

No, did not dose anything. Test done on API. Might have to buy another test kit to double confirm. Think I'll go with Salifert.

But anyone ever had any issues with Ca rising? I have a bit of puka shells maybe 5% on my substrate. Could that be leeching Ca into the system?

yes puka shells can leech calcium but very little and will be maintained by buffer systems.

not enough to cause such a big rise. problem lies somewhere else. maybe test kit fault.
