Just replaced a long overdue MH bulb with above type today. Realized that it was very yellow (like sunlight) & zero blue tinge.

Am I mistaken that 14000k light has bluish tinge or something wrong with my magnetic ballast?

Any thing 8k and above have a bluish tinge, but it starts getting obvious after 12k.

IME there could be 2 reasons of yellowing. Water yellow very badly or you got a bad (misprint?) tube.

PS: Some tubes turn on with very yellow tinge and slowly become blue.

Regards,

Billy Cheong

Am surprised that BLV can have misprint on tube, but it's really yellow light. Dunno if the LFS will entertain an exchange cos it was kept unused in cabinet for many moons till now.

Hey bro!

14k lighting is not suppose to be yellow.

I know certain brands might be less blue but definitely not yellow.

maybe you can check back with that LFS ... who knows, maybe that manufacturer really had some issues with that batch.

Different brands have different spectrums and you cant just rely on what is stated but to read more to find out what colors they actually produce.

BLV Germany

10k - white with slight tint of yellow

14k - Crisp white (no blue tint)

20k - White with slight blue tint

If you compare like brand like Reeflux, their 12k is much bluer than BLV 20k. Even Phoenix Japan bulb are much bluer than BLV 20k so what you are getting is correct.

If you want to get a bulb with a tint of blue from BLV, than you should go for BLV 20k instead of 14k. The BLV 14k still need blue supplemenet so that the color will not look bleach..

hope this explains....

Thks for the enlightening explanation dr evil. But I still think the BLV lamp is not right as it is giving yellow, not crisp white light, more like below 10000k. It's got a coating of yellowish particles on the inside glass envelop after an hour fire up.
