yuma not doing well

anyone can advice what is usually the first parameter that cause yuma not to open up well? currently having a orange yuma not does not open up well.

previously also had a orange 1 after 1 month melted.

Orange yuma is easier corals compare to other eX yuma.... water parameter they should able to get along with wide range of parameter.... unless totally out of range....

But low light, high flow + fish disturbance (eg, clown hosting)is not acceptable...

Cheers and Happy Reefing...

What's the reason for clown hosting not acceptable???

nitrate=10ppm.

phosphate not tested but i dose goodbye phosphate regular to keep it in tact.

pH=8.6

SG=1.025

intially place it on the sandbed but seem like does not open well. shifted up to mid tank. observe few days, seem worst.

using 4x t5HO. not very strong cause having single reflector.

Base on my previous experience.. the stress sign not immediately.. but months down the road.. you will see your yumas shrink one by one.. And the clown keep on parting yr corals....

And also I share this info with my colleague.. they actually ignore the recommendation at first.. after while they agree Clown host on zoas, mushroom or some LPS.. Is very stressful to coral... Hope it helps....Cheers...

How old is your tank?... slow stocking for the moment... try to balance yr salinity and PH...

Sandbed is ok.... try find one spot very low flow and moderate light.. let them settle there and monitor for few days..

Cheers...

nitrate 8.6? hopefully the test is taken at night.

if test is taken in the morning or mid day, PH can rise to 8.8 at night...

Ph will increase throughout the day till aquarium lights are switched off.

The ph reading just before lights off are usualy at the highest.

My night refers to at night when the aquarium lights are still switched on :P

isnt pH suppose to drop at night? i measure in the day 8.6, night is 8.3.

think i will shift it drop to low light and observe. thinking of trying partially shaded place.

Hai, Michael, u r right on PH trend.... but before jump to conclusion whether yr PH really true is that hi (8.6)..make a calibration to confirm.... otherwise, we might shooting the wrong variable.... :)

i will try to verify the accuracy of pH today.

btw, i do not do any dosing of additive. just plain distill water with TM salt mix. so i assume that the pH should fall nicely within the acceptable range.

other coral seem to be doing fine. only this particular yuma.

ok... I am using tropic marine reefpro as well.... In general, Tropic Marine exhibited higher PH at beginning... and lower KH (need supplement) Normally advice to let the salt deteriorate sometime... let the PH stabilize before enter to main tank...

But PH = 8.6 could be something else...... lets chek your calibration first.. cheers..

Lets review below report on salt test, which I found quite useful....

Ya, agree.. as mention earlier on.. Orange yuma is easier, they should able to get along with wide range of parameter....

But to ensure your measurement correct.. just double confirm yr PH reading.. a bit unrealistic to me...

And also makesure your salinity not overshoot too high....

1. Check your Flow again...

2. Check your Temp not exist > 30C

3. Check any pests or fishes disturb?

4. Try put one fix location without disturbance moderate light is ok... low flow... monitor for few weeks... they will come back....

Pls find below my colleague tank.. the yuma's placement actually not so good.. the green one occasionally fight with RBTA, but still produce new baby yumas. And the Orange one actually at shaded area. Still doing well and propagating also. But this area r low flow...

Therefore, If everything fulfilled, I suggested let them settle down.. dose strontium and Iodine once a while.. Routine WC discipline. They should come back :)

bro..u using nsw or mixed saltwater....i tend to find yumas easier to handle when using NSW.

I think michael mention he is using tropic marine salt.

Cheers...

yesterday calibrated my pH pen, seem like it is way off calibration. so new verify reading is 8.1.

my tank temperature is maintain at 26ºC.

i assume no pest or fish cause i only have 3 fish in my tank. should be relatively peaceful for the yuma.
