Advise with cycling of tank

Hi advanced reefers out there

For newly setup tanks, was told that salt water need to be cycled and sea water dont't.

Pls advise. Thanks.

Main Tank: 48 inch x 24 inch x 20 inch with side overflow box, with cabinet with Laminate
Sump: 42” Sump tank with 4 compartments
skimmer: Bubble Magus Insump skimmer
Return: Ehiem 1626
Chiller: 1 HP Daikin Compressor
Reactor: PhosBan Reactor 150 with Rowaphos
Lighting: DeLightings 8 X 54watts T5 Lighting Fixture

WaveMaker: RR Conch + 60

Just a normal reefer thought (not advanced) :

It's not true bro.

you are cycling the tank, not cycling the water.

but seawater does help to shorten the cycle period.

would still advise you to go through the proper cycling period regardless if you are using seawater or salt mix water.

get a test kit to monitor the various cycling stages.

To add on to Jacky's reply above, you are cycling the tank to cultivate bacteria in the live rocks and filter media, these bacteria will be responsible for your biological filtration. Cycling with sea water is faster cos it contains natural bacteria from the sea which will add on to the existing bacteria from other sources like live rocks. Synthetic salt mix is mostly sterile, but you can dose bacteria to speed the process up.

Both needs cycle.... :)

In long run... I suggested Synthetic Salt Water....

Pls find some info below for Synthetic Salt Water Vs Sea Water....
