what went wrong?

previously my volitan was infected with cloudy eyes and dead

waited for almost a month before introducing some dwarf lions

now, 2 weeks later, 1 of them infected with cloudy eyes :(

fed them twice a week, with 2-3 live freshwater ghost shrimp

any thing wrong with my tank? or is plainly fish in poor health condition?

snails, starfish etc etc are doing fine, surviving well

2 x 1 x 1.5(H) feet tank

water parameter

ammonia 0

nitrite 0

nitrate 30

temperature 26 degree celsius

ph 8.1

salinity 1.023

thanks

Definitely not the LFS as they can't be responsible for poor fish health in our tanks as fish are living things lor. Many other possibilities for poor health due to stress from catching methods, holding tanks, transportation, feeding, etc.

Since your tank only has lionfish, perhaps some medication will work?? I'm not sure. But I think feeding freshwater shrimps may not be a good option as this is not their natural diet. Tried luring them to eat market prawns or freezed dried krills/shrimps? And i think you do not need such a cold temp for lionfish, 26 degrees is a bit too cold. 28 would be fine IMO.

Agree with the above. Can try MP la bro. Cheap n easy. Can cut to size for feeding. Shouldn't be a problem to adapt eating MP.

Btw LFS definitely wun bear the responsibility for any fishes die after payment made n walk out of shop coz they also dunno wat we did to the LS + our water condition etc...

Some1 doesn't 1 2 do anything find an excuse,some1 1 2 do something find a mean!

Just a casual reminder to the reefer here. It's better that we observe how the owner of our LFS kept their fish.

If like Bo chap Bo chap attitude then result in bad water quality then we better not purchase LS from them.

In this case we no owe them reason, they also no owe us reason. Both party happy!

hi bro

i am not blaming the LFS, or seeking for refunds

trying to find the root issue of my office thank

cheers

It could be due to anything as highlighted, of course, including the way the LFS treated their fishes. You can see fishes in some LFS that really do not look well and the owners do not care much. A year ago I happened to pass by a LFS and was horrified to see how marine fishes were cramped into several small tanks (as if they are freshwater fishes) in Yishun. And then, there are others that never bother to feed them. So, best to avoid all these LFS. So far, i think Sealife is one of the few that treated their fishes with some respect, including cheaper ones like clownfishes and chromis. I know AVA does grade these LFS based on their practices, just like NEA grading hawker stalls, but i seldom see the display on their shop though.

I have my first lion fish 4 years ago and suffer the same problem with you, cloudy eye, loss of color and die .

IMO i think the diet is the key part in the success of keeping the lion fish, fresh water shrimp does not give the nutrient that the fish need , and they dont eat this in the wild. I kept my second lion fish in my office for about 2 year feeding it daily with frozen mysis cube each day (soaking it with kent marine Zoe once in awhile), until i sold it away few month ago. I never change my water for about one year, and it is just a simple 2ft setup running with live rocks and redsea skimmer without any sump / overflow. For maintaining the water, I just dose trace elements, iodine and ca one a week.

It is advisable to buy one which is already train to eat frozen food , get the LFS to show it to you if you can or buying it from reefer which has already train it. It is pretty hard to train a lion fish to eat frozen but if you do a search in SRC here, you should be able to find some good information share by some reefer previously how to train it.

in reefing for almost 2 years liao, never go sealife before

heard that parking is really bad, that deter me from going

you can park at the open carpark in the nearby market and walk there..About 10 min walk.

Prehapes you can also ask Sealife to show you if their lion fish is already feeding on frozen , i got my second lionfish from them. They are all very friendly people there willing to show you .rolleyes.gif

hmm, my lionfish that i kept 2 years ago i train it to eat pellet (that frontossa and other fresh water fish eat).

sometimes felt with market prawn, no issues

* - I train the lionfish by starving it for few days (also note lionfish can be fed 2-3days once but i fed it everyday).

* - i used a pincer to hold the pellet, keep shaking it infront of it, then when it open mouth i put it in slowly, till it close and the pellet is inside, slowly by doing this, the lionfish that i kept (two of it) hunt the pellet after i threw it in) :yahoo:
