Why dun you buy the Tubby from Cookiemunster? I'm using it and it has really been wonderful. The details are in the sponsors' thread. Two thumbs up from me as I was away for more that two weeks now and my marine-illiterate father has find ease in maintaining my tank. :)

A reefer-turned-innovationist... peifu...peifu... :)

What do you consider a reasonable cost?? The worksmanship required is very high as such there needs to be more money that goes into worksmanship.. trust me I know...

Wasn't there a post with my diagram of my version of the auto-top up? Go look around for it if you want it the cheap way... anyway if you want it the cheap way you just got to get your hands dirty...

I wouldn't bother with DIYing and get Cookie to do one for me. I am a gu niang. my hands must be smooth and clean. ;)

guess i got a little... :off:

To SBS: i dun mean any harm, its just that i realised you always find things expensive... but truly bro... in this hobby, the only thing that is inexpensive is.... let me think... ehh... errmm... arr... nothing.

he's a student. bear with it. (=

but at the end of the day I figured, DIY may be more expensive. imagine if you screw up on your prototypes. the amount of money invested into those prototypes is good enough to get a Tubby with a powerhead. ;)

Terry,

Definitely not for this items.Very simple circuit.

All you need is a float switch or two,an alarm circuit ,a box and 1 socket for your pump.

Only need to do some cutting ,filing ,soldering and wire connection.

As long as you know how to drill ,file, saw, solder and tighten screws,

Regards

i realised you are right.. sometimes DIY can result in higher $$ (i fully agree)...

that's probably my advice to 'SBS' as well... (again, i mean no harm... no hard feelings yah... )

thats if you can get things right the first time.

if you're a complete idiot to electro circurtry, I don't think so. remember murphy's law. if shit can happen, it will happen. beginners luck? I don't think so.

Terry,

You are right. For those without engineering background then might run into problem if never find out detail.

But for anyone with basic technical background, then should be no problem.

Anyway the joy and sorrow of DIYING is aways there.

ehehe...

This remind me of my kampung days in the 70's... Used to have a pond. My top up unit is the everyday thing u see every morning, the toilet flush thing  . Dismantle it.. take the float and the valve.. fix it to a pipe. that's it. Not the best of things but it works.

I not saying this how u do it but just to give an idea.

Keep it simple.

There is a cheap alternative for an auto topup system but not very nice looking unless got sump and cabinet to hide. Get a container and place it higer then the tank to fill(preferbly sump). Drill ahole and connect a toilet float valve (got those new small ones). adjust the float to the disired height and when the water level drops, the valve open to allow water to flow from the top up container to the tank. when the desired height is reached, the valve shut and flow stop.
