hi, hope to tap on ur expertise and ideas on how to lower temperature furthur.

I just started another 4 ft tank with sump using rio26 that pumps the beckett skimmer n acts as a return pump. using 1 fan, my temp is 30C. i hope not to use a chiller.

any advice on how to lower temp furter. tks for ur thoughts

lower room temperature... air con or ceiling fan.

making pumps external reducing heat return into water.

a chiller goes a long way though.

with a fan and 30c u are losing a lot to evaporation.

For such a big tank... I dun think fans will make it big difference in the temp...

Ya +1 Chiller is a must in long run..

you would need quite a powerful fan or fans to keep your temperature constant for such a big tank... evaporation rate would be extremely high.. i highly suggest you to get a chiller..

Lighting n height of lighting being fix also plays a very important part

Location of tank display (avoid wall that will encounter afternoon hot sun)

Positioning of fan. On tank or sump surface? (Blow fan 45 degree on tank water surface)

Avoid leaning tank n cabinet too close to wall to allow heat escape.(4 inches away is good enough)

All are v. good suggestions to reduce tank temperature.

But no matter how many of these suggestions that can be employed, they help to only bring down the temperature of tankwater from ambient temperature. Which means there isn't much hope of bringing down temperature below 30 degrees if the ambient temperature is 35 degrees.

There are some equipment that are good to have. Others like the chiller, I consider as a must have if you intend to keep a 4ft marine tank in Singapore.

When the chiller comes into the pic,u can bo chap all the above mentioned method.

But if u use the above mentioned method without a chiller u can easily achieve 28-28.9 degree celcius.

When raining day 27.1 degree celcius is possible.

I've achieve that before so i know n note: i'm with MH.

I used to try different methods such as external return pump, reduce lighting hours during the day, reduce number of lights, use fan, opening up more windows when not at home, etc and cos of high ambient temp these days, temp still high at 30 degree celcius. Fish and corals suffered. In the end, got a chiller and that solved the problems and worries.

The only thing to bear with is higher electrical bills and heat generated into the living room...but i think in the end, it's still worth it to get a chiller for the health of the tank inhabitants.

hey, thanks to all , including jackywong, for ur expertise n advice. knowing that many of u have gone thru those trial n error bit. many thanks. 1 nagging question is how much would a chiller cost p/month....$30 to $50? for my 4ft tank

This question I've ever come across before. Need to c wat kind of chiller u gonna use.

If base on average I'll think should be around $20-$30 ba.

I changed my beckett skimmer to needle wheel type, the chiller doesn't have work so hard anymore.

U mean before hand not needlewheel wan chiller got to work more hard???
