phangster
Hello! Just wondering if I were to custom a new tank with crystal glass using clear silicon, will I be able to clean off the algae? Or is black silicon recommended?

SRC Member LaW Posted May 1, 2010 SRC Member Share Posted May 1, 2010 from what i heard from tank maker with no solid proof. clear silicon is tougher. black silicon looks nicer (individual preference) clear silicon (after exposed to saltwater for long and then dried out without saltwater, can be peeled out easily.) Quote If a man could beat his own fantasy. Then to only breed in captivity. Then its pointless. Genesis 1:20 And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that has life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven. And God created great whales, and every living creature that moves, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good. And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth. And the evening and the morning were the fifth day. || Tank: 78" x 30" x 30" || Sump: 48" x 22" x 20" || Lights: PowerModule 10 X 80W|| Returns: 2 x HF32 || || Skimmer: BubbleKing Supermarin 300 || Wavemaker: 3 x 6100 & 1 x 6200, 2 x Wavebox 6212, WavySea || || FR: 2 x FR150 || NR: Sulphur Denitrator || CR: RM Custom Made 8" || KR: Deltec KM500 || TopUp: Tunze Osmolator 3155 || || UV: Coralife 12X 36W || Ozonizer: Sanders C200|| Controller: GHL Profilux Plus II Ex ||
SRC Member DUCADOS Posted May 1, 2010 SRC Member Share Posted May 1, 2010 +1 for bro law. I experience tank with clear silicon. It hardened n yes easy peel off. Sometime will crack if too dry. For my tank with black silicon after use on saltwater then never use, the silicon is still soft n rubbery when I feel. phangster
i've seen the display tanks at most marine fish shop who uses clear silicon, usually the sides are full of aglae and makes it very ugly... unlike black silicon where you can't see it... but if use black silicon, it'll defeat the purpose of using crystal glass... i'm still undecided... haha

SRC Member comycus Posted May 3, 2010 SRC Member Share Posted May 3, 2010 any idea if the glass shop beside GO makes crystal glass tanks? Yes, can check Zorden's and Dachkie's tank builds. Both built recently by Atlantic. Quote My old 3ft
