Do you cover the sides of the aquarium when the tanks light is turned off during the night so that the the fishes can rest and not remain awake (and probably stressed) because of the house light leaking into the tank?

i think its not necessary too.. since most of the lights are off in the house by then.. even under moonlight thats on-ed throughout the night, my fishes seem to have no problem slping.. the sleep cycle is quite routinized as long as u dun have ur tank's main lights on-ed in late nights..

Hi nuj,

my hall lights are normally switched on till 2 - 3am everyday. I am a late sleeper.

I do notice that for fishes that hide in rocks and sleep are ok. they do go to bed still.

But the bigger fishes - tangs - stay up as late as I do.

They will still be swimming around till I switch off the hall lights.

and they wake up earlier than me. = > they are sleeping very very short hrs - 4 - 5 hrs daily only.

So far ok. cannot notice any detrimental effects yet on the tang.

If your house light are switched on around 12 - 1 am, then I guess it is ok.
