Hi there,

I am currently using a Reef Octopus as well, I am facing some problem with the noise issue. There seem to be quite a loud vibration noise from the pump at times. I was wondering if it was sand that is sucked up by the pump that makes the noise???

There is some sand in my sump as I poured in a bag of coral chips. The sand particles are really close to the pump for my skimmer. could this be the reason that my skimmer is making such a loud noise? Should I try to siphon the sand out? Please advise!!! Thanks!

u shd not placed yr skimmer where yr coral chips are...these fine sand particles can damage yr pump in no time.

i suggest u switch off yr skimmer, take out the pump and impeller and remove the sand inside...otherwise, yr pump will get jammed...and get heated up inside yr tank...u won't want to know the consequences....

Thanks for the information, the coral chips are placed on a egg crate but what happened was that I poured in the coral chips, there is sand and it is now in my sump!!!! I will clean up the sump, immediately when I get home from work!!! Thanks for the great advise..
