jackywongto
hi bro. They take in pods. can be live pods or artic pods. some do take in mysis after some time. you can try to use straw / syringe and drop mysis near him. kanegan
PODS!!! mandarin only each pods! 2 months!!! Please check if his tummy is sunken in..... if not, then he is probably finding pods in your tank. If he is very skinny, he could up lorry soon...... SRC Member poomoon Posted April 21, 2010 SRC Member Share Posted April 21, 2010 best to have a mature tank with lots of pods, unless you got a proven pellet-eating one. otherwise as jacky said, try to add live or arctic (preserved) ones. and yes, check his tummy, if it's sunken, maybe offer to some other reefer with lots of pods willing to take to adopt. good luck. SRC Member digibee Posted April 21, 2010 SRC Member Share Posted April 21, 2010 Hi, just sharing my experience; I got 3 mandarins; after about 1 month or so; saw that one getting skinnier while the other 2 are getting bigger. So I catch the skinny one out and put into the betta box; Throw pellets; arctic pods; mysis shrimp; brine shrimp in. Saw him personally ate the mysis and brine shrimp; Did not see him took the pellets or arctic pods; but found the number of pellets reduced after one day. Quote () Happy will do ... SRC Member digibee Posted April 21, 2010 SRC Member Share Posted April 21, 2010 next time I pass my mandarin to you for training.... yeah, no problem; But I guessed; not much training is involve; I think he got too hungry so he has to eat something. In the tank; he could not rush or fight for the food I threw in; All the other hungry like wolves fishes always finish up the food before they touch the sand bed. I think the other 2 mandarins are smarter; they climbed up the live rocks to catch some food Quote () Happy will do ... (o_o)

SRC Member raydiative Posted April 21, 2010 SRC Member Share Posted April 21, 2010 Sure. Thanks for help n info... no worries.. if your mandarin doesnt have sunken stomach that means that there should be pods in your tank.. one way to find out is to use a torch light and see your tank after the lights goes off for about an hour or 2.. you should see some white stuff swimming about.. SRC Member DUCADOS Posted April 21, 2010 Author SRC Member Share Posted April 21, 2010 yup... your fishes would love them... Oh ok. So I would say with that kind of supply I can get 1 more mandarin fish thrown onto my tank la coz at 1st was worried that I buy 1 more will result in insufficient food for them. Don't. 1 mandarin can eat a lot of copepods. If you get another, they might starve.
jackywongto
you mandarin will deplete all the pods in your main tank in a matter of weeks. so unless if you have a refugium or a quiet area for pods to reproduce peacefully, it is a matter of time when you run out of copepods.
