Adding of Kalkwasser

I have some difficulties adding kalkwasser.

Here's what I did. Utilising a plastic tub, scoop water from my refugium and dose small quantities of kalkwasser powder into the tub, before slowly reintroducing into my refugium. However despite how I stir, there are still powder on the surface. I sort of gave up after a while and just poured the remainder into the refugium (since I have no lifestocks there, just liverocks) and let it dissolve over time.

Does it take a long while for kalkwasser to dissolve in the water ?

u shouldnt pour undisolved kalk into ur tank...go read up more on kalk dosing....we use pure water to mix the kalk powder, not the tank water

i hope you are dripping it in instead of pouring it in.

kalk misuses are lethal. do read up on it before even attempting to use it.

i looked through your tank thread.. whats the situation you wish to rectify by using kalk?

i think you can do without it actually, by using other methods

To be super correct, it should be dechlorinated fresh water.

1. Stir 1/2 teaspoon of kalkwasser into dechlorinated fresh water in a container with cover
   
2. Cover the container to minimize contact with air and wait for kalk to settle
   
3. Drip or pour slowly the clear solution into tank and discard the remnants

Looks like I've missed this...

I've added more corals (haven't updated that thread in a while), so trying to add some doses to help growth.

I've also gotten trace additives too, so will be testing around before I see what's good and what's not.

hi bro, just to share with u my diy style - simple but effective, as i see the coraline algae growing quite well. i poke a pin hole at the bottom of a gallon plastic container; mix about 3mg of kalk with water , shake vigorously, then let let it drip (with a tooth pick sticking into the pin hole); i do it at night, 2 or 3 times a week. i guess it acts as a top up water as well as a ph buffer. after 1 or 2 months, i see coral algae growing in my new tank. all the best!!!

That's a very interesting way. I've only dose it fortnightly, I guess that's still pretty ok. But the amount I use might be too much.
