Would just like to check, can the sand from my previous tank be re-used for my new tank? The sand (and rock) actually dried up already because unable to get a replacement tank for more than a couple of months. Anyone can advise?

Tks!

the only thing is that there is a possibility that the dead rocks might leech back phosphate into the tank. But I would not be too concern. prob some algae boom, thats about it.

Do more WC and use phosphate remover to overcome this if it happens.

I think Zorden, dachkie cooked their rocks to avoid this.

but I am not too sure on this. Will leave for others to comment.

Live rock cooking is quite tedious  and have to do a few rounds.

But I think at minimal you could give your dried rocks a soak, a good scrubbing if possible, and wash and soak again.

That should remove most stuff except for the phosphate deep in the rock. like jacky mentioned, i think most people don't bother to 'cook' their rocks to remove the embedded phosphate.

Btw, when we say cook, we don't mean cook on over a fire....
