SRC Member CalciumReef Posted December 17, 2003 SRC Member Share Posted December 17, 2003 Washing with FRESHWATER will kill off the bacteria in the rock. There will be die offs on the rock.
bwilly
Smell it. best to assume its uncured. n your topic is too vague my fren.. cured rocks look more whitish with coraline algae (reddish patch) on them. uncured, basically got a terrible sea smell on it. n there's some living crawlie on it. terryansimon
you can clean with freshwater if you want, and risk destroying all organisms on it. all, includes pests and beneficial.

bwilly
if u just adding some additional LR.. wat I did is wash in tapwater.. scrub it.. clean.. put back in my tank, let it seed together with my other cured rocks. take note, huge amt. of additional LRs will cause some spike.. u can also beat your LR with a rod to make sure its dead.. terryansimon
cane the bugger! (= just cure it in a tub with saltwater and a powerhead to make it circulate. if you're lazy, be like me and just dump the thing into your tank. if you're adding into a tank with stock already, be careful. may cause ammonia spike. SRC Member SpiderOne Posted December 19, 2003 SRC Member Share Posted December 19, 2003 large influx of uncured LR will cause ammonia spike. Cured wont be so bad. unless its not cured properly.
