ibanez
eh i thought i saw live sands? u removed it? That was grade 5 sand. I have removed it and go for bare-bottom instead as it seemss the maintenance is easier. My set-up is simple. Main filtration is the skimmer although I also use about 600g of Biopellets. I suck out the debris and do water change once a week. Got a cleaning crew of snails and hermit crabs to assist me. However, I do feel bare-bottom must really keep clean if not quite unsightly. However its not able to control the density of the lights, ie dimmable. SRC Member desideria Posted March 21, 2010 SRC Member Share Posted March 21, 2010 NICE LIGHTS!!! rockscape very good too.. i see many a crevice and corner for the fishys to swim in. I had a bare bottom tank for my little 2 feet and I had a very hard time cleaning it as there are certain parts that one simply can't reach! I hope you have better luck in having a bare bottom tank. ibanez
Looks 'bulky' to moi. Do U put it on top of ya LED housing ? Hi bro, Yes it does looks a lil big but trust me its very very light. Its like a mh ballast, but 1/5 the weight and house behind my tank. Saves me two timers to control the led separately. nice setup, btw, i think bare bottom more difficult to maintain... all the dirt and uneaten food all settle below or hide under rocks. Sometimes i look at the dirt i very tempted to suck them out. But I do not use pre-mix salt now neither do i house any nsw at home. So whenever I am available, i will hop by iwarna and get a few packets of nsw to water change. Bare-bottom really needs a good cleaning crew. So far I have blue-legged hermit and 7 turbo snails. Hey... very nice set up...barebottom, does the rock work "moves"... Is one Maxspect G2-110 enuf for a 4 footer... Ha, this is my first bare-bottom. I have had 6-7 tanks with sandbed. The reason why i finally chose bare-bottom is less hassle. Plus if i am not going to have a deep-sand bed, then it will not serve much purpose expect that it will look more natural. One maxspect is definately not enuff. Unfortunately the G2-110 model uis so sought after that I have to wait for the next shipment to come in! At least now got the T5 and one set of maxspect to hang on to. ibanez
very nice tank set btw! Swee...the rockwork is perfect too...... bro u are very kind. I'm trying to use as few equipments as possible to upkeep the corals. I used to have kalk reactor, denitrator, calcium reactor etc. Very complicated, simplicity is what I am chasing after now. I realise a good rockscape need good rocks to begin with. Fortunately for me, I mange to get superb rocks from coral farm, as well as another lfs in the north side. The rocks are filled with coraline algae and its very very porous. However, it does have many freeebies like crabs, worms and snails. I flush all my rocks under the tap before putting into the tank to remove as many pests as possiblr. You need a G2-180 or G2-230 for a 4 footer. Yes Sir, I have to agree with you. For now I am using one maxspect G2-110. Howeverr, the next unit of G2-110 will arrive in the next few weeks if I am lucky. Looking forward to it. The higher range of the G2 is a lil pricey, So i am sticking to G2-110 x 2 pieces and one set of 4 feet retrofit. NICE LIGHTS!!! rockscape very good too.. i see many a crevice and corner for the fishys to swim in. I had a bare bottom tank for my little 2 feet and I had a very hard time cleaning it as there are certain parts that one simply can't reach! I hope you have better luck in having a bare bottom tank. Cheers, Desi Ha, i enjoy seeing the fishes swim through the caves as well. Rather have as little rocks as possible, total rockscape only approx 50-55kg of rocks. Yea bare-bottome does have the disadvantages. But in the long run it might be better than the dsb system. I can't be sure now but most of my buddies have change from dsb to bare-bottom. Slightly influenced by them. Cheers!
