Depends on whether you're talking about pros or amateur. I have my trusty 350D for more than 2 years now.

still trying to earn my priced glasses/lens now.

If a man could beat his own fantasy. Then to only breed in captivity. Then its pointless.

Genesis 1:20

And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that has life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven. And God created great whales, and every living creature that moves, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good. And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth. And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.

Just sold my D700 lol.. Cannot take the pressure of everyone expecting me to take photos every time there is an event.

My 1.5ft nano cube

My 24G nano tank (Decommed)

I can picture in my mind a world without war, a world without hate.

And I can picture us attacking that world, because they'd never expect it.

nikon D90. what you said are true but sometimes when you reach a certain stage and at a difficulut situation for shooting, lens play an important role.

1-1.5k ah... what u like to shoot and are you aiming for high end equipment in future?

Sony has some nice new low end DSLR... or if you want, can try the micro 4/3 formats... so much smaller and slicker :P

D90 is very good camera... although i am a very keen photographer i also use D90 after almost 5 years with my D70.

Like you say, lens (usually the range) is impt. If you are not too particular, Tokina has a nice wide angle.. i think is 11-16mm.. 1/2 the price of a nikon UWA lens. :P

I am using tokina 12-24 for the past few years, no complains...

I take mostly my princess. LOL. She's the justification for the camera in the first place. I wish I have more time to explore. I've been wanting to visit Angkor since many years ago but other things always takes priority... *sigh*

I like to take scenes. Below are some samples.

I'm interested to learn more. Bought a 500D middle of last year to take pictures of my little prince.

But I guess I have more pictures of the corals instead.

Only have 3 lenses. Stock 18-55 and 2 prime: macro 90mm and 50mm.

decommissioned 2.5x2x2

why you sold it. :angry2:

LOL I was selling at the exact same time you posted this. I must sell it before Nikon releases a full frame semi-pro with HD video and 24mp mah, once that is announced, everyone will dump the D700 and drive the resale price down :P. Anyway I'm an early adopter, so I've had one and a half years of fun with it

Besides the DX vs FX issue, the D90 image output is quite competent as compared to the D700 with the same 12.3mp, only that for obvious reasons, D700 images are super crisp and clean. And IMO the D90 is quite fun with the HD video mode. Can shoot movies with beautiful bokeh maciam Wong Kar Wai!

Terry,

for that budget,

D5000 kit or

550D body

Or D90 :D

Just bought it earlier at $1100. My advise? For a first time DSLR user, get second hand units unless you are going for the semi-pro or pro range of cameras. Digital tools depreciate very fast and every couple of years a new model is introduced to replace what you have, this is especially true for consumer range DSLRs. I bought an out of warranty third hand D70 a few years back for $500 to basically play around and learn, and sold it 18 months ago for $350. Imagine if I bought it at retail for $1.8k and sold it at a loss of $1450

I sort of agree with your last sentence. I bought my D70s from CS for $700, sold it for $650 1.5 years later :P. I bought a SB800 for $480, sold it for $450. Both were bought and sold same time. I am considering selling my D300 set as well :)

I always wondered where you macro enthusiasts find all the insects to shoot LOL.

I got the D700 mainly for the full frame sensor and dramatic UWA pictures like this:
