Relax, hehe. No definite setup for sump but those you saw at lfs, did u see the full setup and also how long it took to mature and stablise . . Also, the stocks are meant for turnover and setup may not be suit serious reefers. Have open concept is good for flexibility but u have to consider bubbles, big particles that might harm yr skimmer, etc. Maybe u just do 2 to 3 partition to separate filter, skimmer and return part.

I am not saying i am going to use this way to cultivate bacteria, but i just want to know whether this way work or not, i believe many bro here also like to know if it work or not. I have seen a few LFS at Pasir Ris Farm doing it, they are the old bird, i hope they are not ignorant by doing so.

TS,

I do not think there is any right or wrong way, just what you want to achieve.

I have friend that run a DSB main tank, hang on skimmer, a empty sump no partition, with nothing but a filter sock for 4 yrs without changing water (fish only set up). For more sump information or design, you might want to refer to this web.

Hope this helps.

Sump with less partition as possible is good.. but for no partition.. might need more work in other ways..

Firstly, one will need a separate refugium. Unless like you mentioned already DBS so might not see the need for that. If not, a first compartment makes sense.

Then one would need something in place to prevent protein skimmer micro-bubbles from entering the main tank.. this can be easily reduced with a decent designed last compartment.

Center no need for any.. good to have space for all other equipments..

Why do we use "My 2 cents worth" when 1 cents are not legal tender in Singapore anymore? Shouldn't it be 5 cents worth?

"Its easier to blame the 'mantis' or crabs in the tank for missing & dead livestocks.."

Yes i have tested for leaked, first try 2 part leaked and i touch up and all is well.

Yesterday finally fix the overflow pipe to my 4ft tank, working ok, but should i take the end cap(the part where you pour water in than cap it) away or leave it? Tq

Will do the overflow for my 2ft using the same sump today, will take some pic if possible and post it after all is done.
