In the thread about BioPellets jptenklooster posted this interesting tip:

"However, it will take longer before you have to replace or regenerate your killer (regeneration can be done with 1M NaOH solution, good tip to save some money)."

If you have tried this method, let us know how well it worked

(I have had 3 kg of GFO in 1M NaOH 4 days now. JP told me to let it sit for one week.)

Humble tank :

Size: 4x2.5x2 ft - Display

Equipment :

Return 1 : Ecotech marine L1

Return 2 : Ecotech marine M1

CR : Skimz CM122 - Caribsea extra course media with Grotech magnesium

Light : ATI 8x54W

Seems that vinegar can be used to regenerate GFO also. Not sure if anyone here has tried it before though.

I had a hard time finding pure NaOH drain cleaner, so I tried regenerating some GFO last night with 50% vinegar solution. It seemed to work well. The phosphate concentration of the soak solution was off the charts. I'm not sure if vinegar will foul the GFO surface though. I may try hydrochloric acid next time.
