SRC Member LaW Posted March 12, 2010 SRC Member Share Posted March 12, 2010 i heard those having problems are mostly the 110V version or those distributed in states. and welcome to src hockboon, you have very very nice first few postings. *sniff* *sniff* Quote If a man could beat his own fantasy. hockboon
Quoted from Reefbuilders.com: “Multiple problems such as defective fuse, major program errors, Low quality material used for shaft, Lack of proper amount and type of epoxy around stator, improper Magnet cover , improper Electrical Cord, unacceptable EMI, excessive wattage draw other than advertised and failing controllers were detected." SRC Member LaW Posted March 12, 2010 SRC Member Share Posted March 12, 2010 Quoted from glassbox-design.com http://glassbox-design.com/2009/red-dragon...pumps-recalled/ "Royal Exclusiv and Proline Aquatics have issued a voluntary recall on the Red Dragon II DC Pumps in 240w and 350w sizes. It is important to note that only 110v/60hz models are effected limiting it to most North American users. The 230v/50hz models have not experienced these problems. The main RD2 DC problems noted have been around electromagnetic interference, controller failure, and shaft / impeller failure. Proline has the serial numbers to all pumps sold and refunds or replacements for the 240w and 350w (110v/60hz) will be given. Although product failures are never good, how they are solved shows the true colors of supporting companies. Hats off to Proline for handling this swiftly and with professionalism." btw, i have no connection with Proline, Royal Exclusiv or any distributors of the products from Royal Exclusiv. hockboon
Quoted from Reefbuilders.com: Although the initial recall included only the 240 and 250 watt models were recalled, “every Red Dragon II Titanium pump will be affectedâ€. Apparently some German users are having a high rate of pump impellers failing. Our German source sent us the above picture which shows a Red Dragon pump impeller that has been corroded/rusted to the point that makes the pump non operational. Also too the axles were sold as “unbreakable†(ala Titanium) with several of them reported to have broken as well (jump down below for pics). The pumps were made in China from Royal Exclusiv’s specifications. Red Dragon Titanium WOES! I just bought one from my recent trip to Germany. I am new to this forum. So what is the issue? You did'nt buy the pump here did you? You should be addressing your issues to the agent in Germany where you got your pump from. SRC Member LaW Posted March 12, 2010 SRC Member Share Posted March 12, 2010 congratulations for owning a good pump. but then, sadly, if you didnt buy from the local agent, you wont have coverage locally. so far i seen those who bought from Singapore agent were covered and replacements were issused whenever the red dragon fails. and thank you for addressing me Bro, thats really friendly of you. but i will only appreciate and feel comfortable when that term is used on me by people who knows me. SRC Member LaW Posted March 12, 2010 SRC Member Share Posted March 12, 2010 Sad to hear that Royal Exclusiv are quite serious as current generation Red Dragon pumps which I have bought have stopped. don't need to be sad, im sure if you get the pump from a well-respected/ethical distributer and not a parallel importer, you will still get your coverage on the things you bought under the warranty period. so just pray hard you bought it from a respected distributer and not from parallel importer. hockboon
It is not the issue about buying from where, it is about the danger to my family. Now it seems to be worldwide recall, speading the Europe. If I start using the pump, will it cause short circuit or fire?

SRC Member zorden Posted March 14, 2010 SRC Member Share Posted March 14, 2010 Haiz.. another debate.. used to be if OCean runner is china made, now RE.. As a consumer who cares which country it is made from, as long as it provide me following, i will be a happy consumer. 1) Competitive Pricing 2) Provision of adequate after sales service 3) User friendly.. 4) Warranty. RD is an exclusive agent of RE for singapore, i believed RD will provide the necessary after sales service. unless there is major problem in the product over at Klaus then that is a different ball game. anyway thanks for Hock Boon on your insightful posting on RE products.
