Sump management

Hi guys,

my sump is 3 compartment.

1) where the water flows to the sump, thru a stack of wool and 2 kg of biohomes.

2) middle section, where the skimmer and also where the pump is sucking water into the chiller

3) last section, where the return pump returns the water back to the main tank, and where the chiller churn out the cold water.

Question:

Can i move the skimmer to the third section together with the return pump?

The reason is then i woudl be able to stock up thee second section with carbon, Live Rocks and sorb-4 etc... etc...

Does any one see any potential issue?

try not to place where the return pump is....coz the microbubbles from the skimmer will go into main tank...unless really not space...then i suggest yr skimmer outlet either u add a T-joint or place a micro filter bag wrapped around it.....

the place where yr chiller pump is will be ideal...

I think it should be alright.

The only thing is that you might have more microbubbles leaking to the main tank.

My guess only. Better to see what the other expert bros here say.

Hi bro, based on your discription, it seems that your third compartment is big enough to house those FRs. Hence, you might want to consider leaving yr skimmer in second compartment and put all yr FRs in last compartment. The pump supporting yr FRs can be in the second compartment and water outlet from FR can be transferred to either 2 or 3rd compartment. If to 3rd compartment and worry about microbubbles, you can put a tray with wool to filter the bubbles from output. For your consideration. All the best.

how about putting biohommes in last compartment?

and carbon medias in the 1st?

Ha ha... Thanks for all your points... I do see the logic behind it.

Yep, all the filter media can go into the 3rd compartment actually. i was secretly hoping to be able to transfer everything to 3rd compartment, and maybe toy with the idea of starting a refugium in the 2nd compartment.

let me run thru the evil thot in my mind first... before i embark on anything and regret later.

Actually the MCE 500 is quite good. I don't see any micro bubbles coming out, but might be because i haven't been looking at it closely.
