Resun CL650 Cooling Question

Hi bro....

I'm having a resun CL650 to cool my 3x2x2 tank including my sump tank.

The temperature set at 27degC.

It takes about 10mins to cool 1degC after it kicks in.

But the curious is that the chiller kicks in every 1/2 hr.

I'm using 2500l/h pump and the chilled water was pump back into my sump tank while using another return pump for the main tank.

Is this normal?

By the way, i tried to reduced my chiller pump flow rate yet still the same.

One thing to add is that my return pump is 1800l/h, which i think this might be the cause because the flow rate is lower and not fast enough to circulate the water inside my sump back to the main tank.

Anyone encountered this and what could be the cause?

Thanks.

Tank : 3 x 2 x 1.8 ( setup end Feb 2014 ) --> 4 x 2 x 1.8 ( setup early Nov 2016 )
Skimmer : Bubble Magus NAC6 --> Bubble Magus Curve 7
Return pump : Jebao 10000l/h ( down in 17th December 2014 ) --> Jebao DC-12000 ( 19th December 2014 )
Compressor drop-in coil
Wavemaker : Tunze 6105 x 1
Lights : Modular based DIY LED light x 4

If possible, switch the pumps around and check the cooling down time.

Hi bro....

Thanks for your suggestion.

That would be a bit difficult.

Maybe I'll control the flow to my chiller reduce smaller than my return pump flow rate.

But previously did tried reducing the pump for the chiller, but don't see much diff....

I think should wait for the chiller to run longer with multiple kicks in...

For teh resun chiller, the internal thermostat is located in the reservoir and not at the inlet. One way to reduce the kick in frquency is to use an external thermostat so that the chiller will kick in according to the temperature of the water in your sump. Another way would be to calibrate your chiller temp so that it will be the same as your sump temperature.

My Setup:

3x2x2 tank with IOS

Equipment List:

Chiller: Artica 1/5HP

Chiller Pump: Sicce 4000

Return Pump: OR3500

Skimmer: Deltec APF600

Wavemaker: Tunze Wavebox/2x Hydor K2/SCWD wavemaker

Lights: DElighting 2x150W MH + 2x 39W T5 Atinic

FR: Skimz

FR Pump: Atman AT-104

Tubby ATO, Kalkweisser Reactor with magnetic stirrer.

Hi Peter.

Thanks for the comment.

I did consider that but was not able to find a similar thermostat which has the closest match.

Tried with one thermostat purchased from SLT, but the temperature is so big diff make it hard to calibrate.

Do you have any external thermostat that can be use for Resun CL650 that can recommend to me?

Thanks.

You could get an external temperature controller where your chiller will be plugged into the unit. Should be able to get it from the below 2 companies.

my arctica took 30 mins, same temp set, same tank size

resun is better or my chiller due for service liao :eyeblur:

How fast your chiller cools down the water depends on how much heat is generated by the pumps in your sump.

Hi bro...

Agree..

But the main tank temperature still low compare with what measure...

That's the one that i'm puzzling....

One more things is that my cabinet has an opening behind and my chiller is just beside the cabinet.

I'm suspecting the heat generated by the chiller leads to the water evaporate faster compare with non-chiller operating.

Maybe need to add a board or fan to prevent the heat goes into my cabinet ( sump tank location ).

Thanks.

used resun cl650 previously

cooling time similar to arctica, but resting, resun 30 mins, arctica 90 mins

Hi bro....

So can I said that my resun CL650 kicks in every 35mins ++ consider normal for a 3x2x2 tank?

Please advice.

Thanks.

u can try using ext thermostats.

Hi bro....

Did that before with an external thermostat.

The readings was not accurate due to the different in specs.

So can't really use as benchmark.

Thanks.

ur chiller thermostats is not accurate hence it kick in after a short time.....most of us use ext thermostats to override the chiller one. but then it ur choice....i used it on my 650 b4.....chiller will only kick in after 3 hrs

Hi bro...

Appreciate your information.

Will see how it goes before getting the external thermostat if really kicks in too frequent.

Still in the monitoring stage.

Thanks.
