Rescape 2 ft tank

Recommended Posts

What is worst case scenario of rescaping a 2 ft tank with livestock inside? Rescape as in take out everything then put back again.

Hi Michael

Let me see if I can help. I think you are more concern about what can go wrong if you do the above.

- fishes might develop some white spots due to stress.

- worst case - loss of fishes.

This can help you:

- collect a pail of tank water 1st. after you have remove the rocks, catch the fishes out and place them in this pail. Put in an airstone for aeration.

- perform WC more frequently the next few days.

- dose bacteria

- change medias. (carbon, filter wool etc)

good luck!

I would not recommend doing it as removing your rocks will stir up a lot of detritus and that will pollute your tank. Worst case scenerio as Jacky mentioned is your fishes may die.

My Setup:

Hi Michael,

Do you have a sand or bare-bottom tank?

'cause I've heard of tank crashes due to stirred up toxins :nuke: trapped in the sand.

Bro, i had to so-called rescape (forced to) recently due to tank leakage as a result of cracks in the glass.

Mine is a 2x1x1 tank with about 3 inches of sand. Took me a full 12 hours from morning 7am to 7pm.

Process include

1. removing all livestock, remaining water (about 2/3 left because discovered only at 7am

but Leakage started earlier), live rocks and sand.

2. Buy a new tank. Put in water to test for leakage.

3. Put back the sand, live rocks and some new saltwater and some old. Let it run till cloudiness largely settled.

4. Put back livestock last. Fishes wise i have one neon goby, one tomato clown, one koran angel, yellow angel.

Heng heng no casualties. Was expecting some whitespots to surface but luckily dont have. though i did put in some Cure Ich as a precaution.

Just sharing a recent experience.
