Senior Reefer yikai Posted March 16, 2010 Senior Reefer Share Posted March 16, 2010 why do you clean the sand bed? leave it to mature..... sand actually houses tons of beneficial bacteria and is sort of like liverock. by removing it and cleaning, you're killing all this. its like soaking liverock in water and re-introducing back into to your tank. if you want to remove diatom build up on the sand, a simple stirring on the surface is enough. or get some sandsifters to stir it once inawhile.. i never hear people removing sand to wash before... SRC Member albinosage Posted June 7, 2010 SRC Member Share Posted June 7, 2010 Have you ID-ed the source of the leak? If it is from the tank sides or wall, then you have a problem. If the leak is from a joint, you can still empty it out and re-silicone it. Quote My 1.5ft nano cube My 24G nano tank (Decommed) I can picture in my mind a world without war, a world without hate. SRC Member albinosage Posted June 7, 2010 SRC Member Share Posted June 7, 2010 Don't think so, to the best of my understanding epoxy is rigid and can be brittle under stress... silicone is flexible and less likely to crack or give way under pressure. If the leak is from a cracked glass, then cannot be helped liao. BTW, if your tank acrylic or glass? I heard of a lot of RSM tanks local and overseas cracking open after some time. SRC Member Vlamingi_cont Posted June 8, 2010 Author SRC Member Share Posted June 8, 2010 Bro you mean the crack is on the glass wall itself??? No, it seemed tt its actually the original silicon that has worn... Hence causing water from the built in sump to leak out... Its actually the part at the plugs..
