My understanding as follow:

Upgrading to Gen 2 generally means changing the magnet to the "black" version which does not suppose to rust. You may wish to change the wet frame cover as well. That's what I did.

Firmware upgrading is also needed to have the night mode. Self upgrading from the web instruction does not seem to be work on all models as it is dependent on your current firmware version. I had "screw up" 2 of my MP40w while trying to do so.

In short, go to iwarna will be the best option. Any way you will need to buy the magnet from them for the upgrade.
