Hi,

i hve this problem of getting red colour algae recently. Notice that it grow on live rock with tiny bubble on the red algae.

My tank lighting 2x 250w MH 1500 to 2100 hrs plus 2x 54w T5 light from 1400 to 2400hrs.

So far I have check the water perimeter KH 12, Cal 450, NO2 and NO3 are normal.

Today and yesterday, i use a tooth brush to brush it away. I intended to change about 15% of tank water on weekend.

What other advise? Just remember that i have begin to add Pohl's Xtra 4ml weekly and microBacter 10ml for my 2x2.5x 4 tank since 1mth ago.

cheers

I have recently faced with the same problem.. Trust me.. The Red Algae is really stubborn.. Continue to keep your tank water qty good by routine water changes . I used Ultralife red slime and its working ok for me..

Using toothbrush to brush away is only a temporary measure. They will come back in few days.. Do take real action pretty soon before they attack and cover your zoas.. Then you will have a really really hard time to clear them away from your precious gems..

How do you use Ultralife red slime and where can i get a bottle? I notice that some of my zoas are also cover with the algae.

I just wonder what causes the algae, lighting or others reason??????

Thanks

Could be too much lighting as i noticed your MH on for quite long..

I will reduce my lighting period for my MH lighting. But was considering on Ultralife red slime .

Red slime is not really algae but more of a bacteria... ultralife red slime is the antibotics... effective but if the red slime occurs again you would need stronger antibotics..

try to improve the water flow over the affected area... this is one possible cause as well... when you scrub the red slime, try to ensure that none of them float away to another part of the tank..

did yours go away Ray?

yup! but sadly came back again as i have no time to take care this few weeks... @#!@#!

also, i stop one of my wavemakers as well and that could be one reason as well...

The previous regim of siphoning the redslime out of the tank works well but requires alot of effort...

Hi Ray,

antibotics will have any side effect on other fishes and coral?

Thanks

Its a mix reviews from many people.. some say it does other claim to have the whole system wiped out..

whatever it is, if you choose to use antibotics pls do it carefully.. dun think you want to take the chance yeah???

but siphoning the redslime out does helps quite alot..

This is interesting... but I don't quite understand the rationale dosing it at night. Care to share more?

Prolly because of the PH thingy....

I have added Ultralife red slime yesterday and after about 1.5 day passes, some of the red algae are removed from the LR.

Tonight i will change 15% of my water and will repeat another dosing of Ultralife red slime.
