From experience, I don't find clams need too much lights. My current tank is a 2x1x1.5, clam on sand bed, lighting 4x21w T5HO. Looking very good after 2 months + coming to 3. 1 Quote Regards, Macrobutt
SRC Member teebs Posted February 23, 2010 SRC Member Share Posted February 23, 2010 If your clam loses its colour then u need to shift it downwards. SRC Member MbmC Posted February 23, 2010 SRC Member Share Posted February 23, 2010 Too much lighting can also cause clams to bleach. Or a sudden change in light intensity. Clams need to be acclimatise as well to your tank lighting. But it will recover as it acclimatises.

Just wondering what kind of conditions to they need? I've no success with croceas, even though my giant squammy has been with me for 3 years

SRC Member MbmC Posted February 23, 2010 SRC Member Share Posted February 23, 2010 Hi Bro MbmC, I notice that you kept a crocea for 2 years. Just wondering what kind of conditions to they need? I've no success with croceas, even though my giant squammy has been with me for 3 years Good flow. And good lighting. But not direct flow. Just enough to keep the mantle waving gently. Croceas need high intensity light. Maximas and Squammies not so high intensity but still need good light. Derasa seemed to be the last demanding for light in my tank. SRC Member teebs Posted February 23, 2010 SRC Member Share Posted February 23, 2010 roger that..looks like i've to shift my clam downwards.. will it regain its colour? Normally it will regain its colours. But will take time. Do take note that if you have clams, you may need to dose more calcium as they use quite a bit of calcium. Also being filter feeders, you will also have to dose phytoplankton in your tank. jackywongto
but also read that clams lose their colour intensity / luminousity due to lack of lighting. Pls correct me if I am wrong. but in any case, I agree to lower it from the LED 1st, then maybe slowly raise it to mid level and see how it does.
