Use of Aquascape epoxy

Recommended Posts

Need advice on how to attach softies on rocks and experience with use of aquascape epoxy...

I used to use aqua z for sps n rocks. juz recently bought aquascape.... the aquascape epoxy clouds the water in my pico like crazy and does not seems to stick well... my mushies all close after the use.

Also soft corals like florida ricordia attached to small pebbles, how do i stick it to the side of my live rock? currently i ring epoxy around the ricordea to wait for it to stick, not sure how long to wait and whether it will work.

:thanks:

i generally find epoxy difficult to use and take a long time to bind... for the cloudiness, u prob did not mix it properly i think... u need to hold the corals to the rock for at least 30 sec or so.

for rics, i think using superglue is the way to go.. i am trying to get the loctites superglue for my rics as well.

for small tank size volume,

dun use too much epoxy as there will be a risk of depleting oxygen. i seen a case of that before and the tank crashed.

for rics, just like what ketchup suggested, use superglue.

i personally use superglue for most of my application.

epoxy is for me to glue heavier stuff. and i epoxy out of water then left it in low flow over the night. epoxy is tricky, need some practise.

its best u dry ur rocks or coral skeleton with a cloth or tissue paper before use.

If a man could beat his own fantasy. Then to only breed in captivity. Then its pointless.

Genesis 1:20

And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that has life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven. And God created great whales, and every living creature that moves, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good. And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth. And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.

Super glue can stick direct onto the base of the coral or must be on the pebble.. my ricordia not very obedient... migrated down to the floor even tho kena ring fence by epoxy. only got 3 loose small gravel on its base.

If you use super glue gel to glue the small gravels on the base of the ric to a live rock or coral chip, the ric won't move. Epoxy is not very effective when u use it to stick a ric with small gravels attached to a live rock.

Must learn from the kungfu masters here... i totally new to sticking softies... btw the ricordia slime a lot when outta water ... stick superglue outside water is it... read somewhere must dab dry the rock first is it?

What I do is dab dry the pebbles the ric is attached to and squeeze a bit of super glue GEL on the pebbles and then place the pebbles onto the live rock or coral chip. Wait about 20s before placing it in the water for ard 1 min. Then transfer the ric to your tank.

Rics will always slime a lot. In fact, all mushrooms slime really a lot but that is no issue. You can put them out of water for 2-3 mins without any issues.

Just to clarify my doubts, when you guys say super glue gel, do you actually mean those normal "Elephant" glue?

Not that one. Use those ingredient contain cyanoacrylate such as 3M or Loctite and gel type. I used these 2 types without harming the SPS,LPS.

You can even put a clump of the glue gel onto the liverock in the water and stick the frags onto the gel. Then need to hold on to the frag till the gel hardened abit. After awhile, then you can turn on the wavemaker.

The Aquarium munster's epoxy quite easy to use and dries up pretty fast... Holds like rocks after that... :eyebrow: :eyebrow: :eyebrow:

just to report. This method works very well and safely. Used aqua Z gel glue for attaching my mushrooms, paly, zoas, rocks.

One of my paly even tho the head kena the glue accidentally managed to open after 4 days. Some tentacles still stuck. no casualty or unwanted mushroom flight so far. Glue turns whitish after set. Superglue fan now.
