y the led no price one?

Another essential feature I think a new LED system should have is to equipped with necessary waveleghts and specturm of lights needed for a varitey of corals. As light requirements can sometimes vary greatly, even within different coral species but with the same genus. In addition, two species of corals do not grow at the same rate, when under the same photosynthetic wavelength of light. This is because each species requires a specific color wavelength (measured in nanometers) to obtain “optimal” color pigment of the coral’s tissue.

There are some reefers converted their LED system back to MH or T5 as they find that LED lighting cannot bring out the colour of some of their SPS as compared to when they were using MH/T5. I would like to think that this might due to the fact that old LED covered only certain wavelenghs (White/Blue) required by certain corals but not all. So, a LED system with the auxiliary lights consist of red, green and blue color chips, alternating with purple (voilet) and blue beads can provide the greatest degree of spectrum for the LPS and SPS; With special controller of RGB, dozens of colors can be set and the true color of the fish, coral, and tank can be presented, which in my view, completely change the traditional lighting effect. :superman:

For existing LED users, you might want to consider supplement the auxiliary lights with the followings:

post-16749-0-29552500-1329667394_thumb.j

Alternatively, for those who are considering converting to LED system, a LED light set with auxiliary lights build in is a preferred option.

For SPS specific LED, they usually use the same quatity of White and blue LED...(e.g. 32 x 3W White and 32 x 3W Blue)...

Hi Tang, good write up on the reef system LED lighting maker. :groupwavereversed: Btw, have you make any purchase with either LEDsea or Pharosled? I'm looking for those with programmable timer funtions to simulate day & night. Thks

bro bluemask,

Unfortunately, I got my DIY customed-build LED system two weeks before I got the chance to visit the Guangzhou Pets and Aquarium fair last year where I found the above mentioned LED system.. I was quite tempting to try out one set when I was there... but having invested much $$$$ on the 2 LemunAqua UltraBright and the DIY LED... I finally gave up the idea...

However, I am able to simulate the similar function by using the buid-in timer from the three LED sets... :superman:

The following are the detail specification of the DIY LED system:

The system comes with a 3-way timer control where you can control the following 3 tracks:

Track 1 - 3 x 30W High Power White Led

Track 2 - 6 x 1W Violet Led

Track 3 - 36 x 3W Bule LED + 36 x 3W /White Led..

post-16749-0-48309000-1333094972_thumb.j

The setting of the timer is very flexible and easy to understand..

1) the first thing to do is set the actual date and time for the system

2) then you select the combination of the track you want to configure (e.g. track 1 only, or track 1 and track 2, or all tracks, etc...)

3) after selecting the tracks, you will then define the days/week assigned to the selected tracks (e.g. Mon only, or Mon, Wed, Fri, or All day, etc..)

4) once the selected tracks and days/week were defined, you then assign the timing to turn on/off the combination

Thank you very much for the detail update! What i concern most is how are the corals doing under this light? May i have the contact?
The SPSs are doing fine...I did not experience any breaching of colour... in fact, some spcies such as Purple and Green Arco are doing better than before... Monti and digitata are growing .. for red and orgage Arco grow are slow but am able to keep the colour. .. for mili results were varied - I have slight chnage in colour for pink and peace milli...but the rest of the colour are doing well.. For LPS, zoas are doing the best with bigger polys and growing fast on my live rock.... the only side effect so far based on my observation is the brain corals...they only open up at light - guess the light might be too much for them... ..have tried to move then to few shaded location... still under observation...

I will try to upload some recent pictures as soon as I got my new toy installed and tested.. however, for your reference... the small signature picture of my FTS below was taken under the LED system...

Delivery service smooth and fast ..

post-16749-0-56327500-1333504507_thumb.j

I confirmed that this is much better than EMS...

Last time when I used EMS to save couples of $$$ for my DIY LED from China.. it took me almost 1 week (when the item reached Singpaore) to get my light set from SingPost/EMS.. Screw-up big time (for two missed deliveries) and even suggest I pick up from the post office of my choice.. :chair:

now the package... :yahoo:

Got these two modules of light sets directly from the manufactor as sample and testing...

post-16749-0-33877000-1333728674_thumb.j

I was surprised that the LED light sets packaging are very compact (35cm x 28cm x 9cm) and extremely light weight (about 1 kg)...

post-16749-0-24093800-1333729316_thumb.j

The full LED package consists of two light modules (90W) and a wireless controller together with hanging kits... the supplier was very thoughful to provide a connecting rob (FOC) which can be used to connect the two modules..
