clee, I simply cannot imagine your WATER BILL every month!!!! :P Kudos to you for the passion you have for both marine AND FW! :eyeblur:

:eyebrow: Desi

It's not the water bill - as the water used is from NSW and I make sure the water from the 6 footer go 4.5 footer when I do the water change...so the water usage is controllable.. The main expenses will be from the electricity used to powered the 6 MH lights and 2 chillers..

But I think the most part of the damage is the impulsive and obsessions in buying new fishes and corals...every time or every week when where is shipments from LFSs.. I am sure some follow reefers here might spend more than me in the quest for their fishes and corals..

Anyway... I am exploring the "green" energy now with few of my friends who are in the energy business..

Let's focus on the 6 footer for now...

Had decided to make this as the central showcase in the basement living room.... so this is the 4-way 360 degree view:

This main display tank and my son tank plus the other two Planted tanks form a "S" shape view...

The Sump tank - the sump is 4ft x 2 x 1.5 in dimension.

I had made some modifications to sump which partition it into 4 major compartments - Water Inlet from display tank section, the skimmer/FR section, Refugium/Frag section and finally the Return to display tank section.

The 3-in-one sump is always my dream... so, took this opportunity to include a refugium and a Frag section in the sump..

The water will flow from the inlet section into the skimmer/FR section and then to the refugium and into frag section and finally into the return section.

talk about a clever idea!!!

just wondering, how's the water circulation in the frag 'section'?

The sump is powered by a resun 7500L/H pump...circulation in the frag section is from the refugium to the frag and pass through the bubble trap straight to the return section .. so, water flow is OK... if I need a higher flow within the frag section ... can just add a small wavemaker.. but for the time being... I think it's sufficient..

This is very important: Power protection...

If you don't want the power surge on the tank or faulty pumps or any power problem on the equipment to affect the whole power supply of the house you should get this ... I connected my main power source of the tank to this device...so that any power surge will stop at this plug..

I also installed a DIY UPS which will provide at least 12 hrs of continious power supply to the two MP40w and the 7500L/H return pump...this will give me ample time to handle any power breakdown :eyebrow:

Spreaking about power... got this 4-way timer FOC from a fellow recom reefer when I got the IKS AquaStar from him

It serves me well for controlling the 3 x 250W MHs and 2 x ATI T5 Blue Plus and moonligh LEDs..

Bro, for the RCD adaptor, you will need to check the trip time. For our home ELCB, trip time is normally less than 30ms. If the trip time of the RCD adaptor is longer than the ELCB you are using for your home, then it will not prevent your whole house from tripping. RCD adaptors are used in US and other western countries because they do not use ELCBs in their home supply.

What I know is that there are only 2 brands of RCD adaptors that have trip times of less than 20ms. The rest range from 20-40ms. The ELCBs we use at home typically have a trip time of less than 25ms.

hi peter then do u know where to buy?

You can get the RCD adaptor at Farnell Singapore. Not sure if other places sell as they are really seldom used in Singapore.

You can get all the two items from Sim Lim square... for the Inverter/UPS is around $168 and the battery (30 amp) is around $250...

Actually, if you just want to support the wavemakers only for 1-3 hours downtime, I think you can get the standard computer UPS in the market.

For me, because I want the return pump and all the others equipments (such as skimmers, FR, etc.) to be able to function even the power breakout and for longer time (at least 6 hours)...

The Inverter/UPS and the battery will depend on how much Watts is required by your setup and the battery will depend also how long you want to support the UPS (hours)..

If you are buying a Inverter... please make sure the it support the UPS function and has the function to re-charge the battery... otherwise, you need to buy each device (the UPS device and the battery charger) separately. .. Usually, only higher watt inverter (support more than 800W) will have these two functions build in...
