5th Day Water Parameter

Hi,

I just measure the water parameter just now (5th day).

GH: 180 ppm (mg/L)

KH: 180 ppm (mg/L)

pH: 8

NO2: 0 ppm (mg/L)

NO3: 20 ppm (mg/L)

Ammonia:0 ppm (mg/L)

First day:

I put live sand, live rock into the tank. Using the NSW from LSF.

Second day:

I have added fish food into the tank.

The ammonia level doesn't look normal as i expected. I thought there will be a increase in ammonia.

Any advise on this situation?

Thanks.

Hi,

You mentioned you added fish food, are they pellets, fresh or frozen? Adding fresh or frozen food such as mysis and brine shrimp will help in the cycling of the tank. As the food decomposes, it will create a ammonia spike thereby kick start the cycling process.

I have once register a spike only on the 8-9 days after adding a fresh shrimp from the market.

HTH ;)

Hi Phua, my tank is into its 2nd week. The NO2 tends to raise later, hence, just hang on to it.

Once the NO2 goes down, NO3 will go up and soon cycling will be done.

Patience! I too having hard time controlling.

Cheers,

Ten

Like I previously mentioned, bcos u used live sand, live rocks, nsw and dose bac; ure readings might not register. Recommend u do as bro gouldian suggested and see if u still register an ammonia spike. If your bacteria is already esablished, then will not see ammonia and no2 spike.

I added dry fish food..not really in pellet form. I just add in a tiny bit. Do you suggest that i should add in more of it into the tank.

Shrimps are qutie during this period..haha..

Juz wanna ask if u throw too much market prawn ( lets say 2 feet tank ,10 whole prawn )for cycling will there be any harm?

Yes, your tank will smell like a rubbish bin!

The bacteria we are used too in our tank will not be able to handle that much ANN and will be overwhelm.

hehe... Bacteria will be Pui pUi or not :P

My personal believe the strains of bacteria will crashed and then follow by a bloom of other strains of bacteria that thrive in higher nutrients environment.
