Black clownfish- the difference

Recommended Posts

Can anyone tell me what is the differences in pricing between the various types of black clownfish? I believe that the Australian black ocellaris are more expensive, maybe $30 and above.

I do see black clownfishes being sold that have yellow faces and fins: these seem to be cheaper. Are they percs? Do the faces turn black when they mature?

Thanks in advance for the answers.

bro, there are few types of clown fish....even for the same kind, got misbar, teardrop, etc. For pure black ocellaris, only black and white.....but some might have orange face as the colour change may not be complete. Those with yellow are likely to be saddle back or other type of clown.....

u need to go farm more often....lol

i have the same queries as jythong...

i have seen black ocellaris (not clark's clownfish) with orange tip on the face, and other black ocellaris with black face (so black cant even see the eyes). u can see the 2 kinds in iwarna now.. they are breeding several pairs of black ocellaris ...

most are selling at $40 ~ $50, sometimes $80 per pc if they come from australia.

i even saw CF selling a pair for $1k+ (they had orange face)

i am wondering if they are several species of the black ocellaris? some with jet black face and others with orange face? or issit just a matter of age / different origin? or they have orange face when younger and will eventually turn jet black as they mature?

(click to see my tank thread)

i believe its of the same origin, australia, but might be breeded from different location.

its a matter of time, normally few mouths for them to reach nice black from orange/dull orange/brown (juv). but not all will have their lips turned full black as far as i know.

If a man could beat his own fantasy. Then to only breed in captivity. Then its pointless.

Genesis 1:20

And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that has life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven. And God created great whales, and every living creature that moves, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good. And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth. And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.

Its normal for Australian Black Ocellaris to have orange faces when in Juvenile stage.. I had my true mated pair with orange faces too.. they both evolved to fully black really quick in my tank..

I don't know about the tank breed ones.. they may have evolved during the multiple breeding processes.. sorta like the shirtless clowns or Picassos..

Why do we use "My 2 cents worth" when 1 cents are not legal tender in Singapore anymore? Shouldn't it be 5 cents worth?

It's in the genes. Some pairs of black ocellaris produce juveniles which turn black sooner, even the face for some. Other pairs produce juveniles which are brown with orange faces at the same size. If you are paying so much for the clown, get one with better genes. If the fish look faded in the bag, it is normal as they are stressed.

Always something more important than fish.
