Chiller Pump Questions

Hellos bros and sis

need some small advice here

I am currently planning to run my resun cl280 chiller for my cube

but since I do not want it to kick in often,I need advise on what kinda pump should I get for it

as it is recommended to run at 900l/hr(I think <_<)

I would like to know what pump to get the faster one or slower one?

My 2 cents.

A fast pump will not allow the water to sufficiently reach the desired temp before leaving the cooling chamber. So I think a slower pump will do the trick.

CL280 is rated for 500-1000L/Hr

I daisy chain mine to an Eheim 2224 that is rated @ 700L/Hr. Kicks in 2 times an hour for about 3 mins. cooling 10 gallons to 26 degrees celcius.

The whole equation is not that simple. You also need to take into consideration the heat sources acting on your water - equipment & environment.

Keeping your tank away from any avoidable heat source will allow for better cooling efficiency.

If only we can keep our tanks insulated like a fridge, we'll be able to save loads on power cost... :P

Why not get a higher flow pump den control it using ball valve? But you wun know the amt of flow going thru need to trial and errror...

I heard using those insulator like those they use for air con to wrap our piping it will help... but dunno to what extent..

Good thinking but here's my 2 cents.

If you use ball valve to restrict flow then (1) the ball valve will created friction with the flowing water. Friction creates heat. albeit minimal. (2) your pump is restricted to work to it's full capacity, this will create additional wear and tear to the components and might reduce it's useful life.

Insulator will work only for the tubing/piping concerned. If the tubing/piping is short, this gain is negligible. Once the cool water hits the tank, it's cold energy is immediately countered by the room temperature.

The issue with restricting the flow of the pump is that you will end up creating back flow for the pump and that may not be optimal for the pump since the pump will always be trying to pump at the rated flow.

A better idea that I'm currently trying is to use a fan to blow at the surface of the sump or you may want to try using an air pump to bubble the water in the sump. Bubbling the water actually cools down the water. Even for return pumps, some people in RC are using air lifts instead of return pumps to save on energy costs and also reduce the heat induced in the sump.

3x2x2 tank with IOS

Equipment List:

Chiller: Artica 1/5HP

Chiller Pump: Sicce 4000

Return Pump: OR3500

Skimmer: Deltec APF600

Wavemaker: Tunze Wavebox/2x Hydor K2/SCWD wavemaker

Lights: DElighting 2x150W MH + 2x 39W T5 Atinic

FR: Skimz

FR Pump: Atman AT-104

Tubby ATO, Kalkweisser Reactor with magnetic stirrer.

ya will be sticking on to a chiller nevertheless hahaha

have two options now one is to use a hydor L20-> 700l/h

or the AB 1000->1000l/h :o
