erm .... if you REALLY need to use a hook and line, i would suggest you use a circle hook instead of normal fishing hooks. Circle hooks have a higher chance to lip-hook the fishes.

If you really want to use normal hooks, it would be good to standyby a de-hooker and de-barb your fish hook. This is useful when you hook the wrong fish and need to release it back in a hurry.

And don't use those tiny little hooks. If you use too small a hook, the danger is that your fish might swallow the hook (we term it as gut-hooked) and survivable rate is VERY low.

Personally, i would think it's better to use those fish traps. If u get the aggressor, the victim is safe.. If you get the victim, then u can nurse it back to health. :)

FYI from a ex-fisherman.

Isn't using hook and line cruel to the fish, esp trying to unhook it? Imagine a hook that goes through your mouth and someone trying to pull it out? Pls don't do that to ýour pet. The fish may suffer mouth infection thereafter.

Try the 'sudden lights on'method. Works 90% of the time for me. When all the fishes went to sleep during lights off, after an hour or so, turn on all the tank lights. The fish will come out from the LR 'blurred' and this is the best time to scoop it up. Should work for tangs and clownfish, except wrasses which could be more difficult.

Well .... like i said in my previous post, I DO NOT advocate using a hook and line unless absolutely necessary. I'll do it if it's a necessary evil, for the greater good of all if I have exhausted all other means of getting the target fish out. Period.

I'll agree to disagree on the part about fish feeling pain. I've seen so much arguments rising from this topic that I know where it will head to eventually so I'll prefer not to discuss this here. :)

I just hope TS can get his victims out of the tank asap; the 'sudden lights on' method sounds like a much better method to me !
