tap water

is there any other way to purify tap water other than using RO or DI system? due to space and inaccessibility, i'm unable to install a RO system and of cause cost is part of the factor also. i am only having a 2ft tank. so thinking can thing like activated carbon purify tap water?

i have thought of that also. but it quite costly. my tank is about 50litres. so a weekly change of 10-20% would be like 5-10litres. distill water of the shelf will cost around almost 1dollar for 1 litre. with this calculation, it not very cost effective and quite a bit of work to buy distill water in huge quantity.

Prehapes you can also consider ordering those distill water from those drinking water company, and they do provide transport of the water to your home at a better price too .

carbon should do the trick but depending on what you are keeping. unless you are more of the "perfectionist", then get RO. startup cost high but its the most cost effective in the long run IMO.

If a man could beat his own fantasy. Then to only breed in captivity. Then its pointless.

Genesis 1:20

And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that has life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven. And God created great whales, and every living creature that moves, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good. And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth. And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.

I can't agree more about using RO (or RO/DI) being worth it. You will save a lot of head aches.

Hey bro imcosmo, welcome to SRC :)

Sorry bros. I'm new here.. Learning to start new hobby. Is it a must to use distilled water? Can i just use tap water n add Seachem Prime?

Seachem Prime removes Chlorine, Chloromine, and Ammonia. Tap water contains much more than those and some like Nitrate, Sulphates, and Phosphates are detrimental to the reef aquarium. RO/DI will remove those.

Read the PUB analyses on tap water that comes out of our taps.

hope this helps.

i uses tap water to top my my FOWLR tank and Nano Coral (softies and zoas)

what i do is fill up the container, add seachem prime, leave it overnight, next day can use le.

till now no issue...

however i too believe in RO/DI water as it's being filtered through and definitely it'll be better.

Thank you bros. Cos I been keeping freshwater fishes. Wanna start on Marine.. Thinking of using same method like fresh water. Overnight water with full blast air pump. Ok. I will study more on the water management before I become murderer of my fish. :)

once your salinity level reaches 1.021 ~ 1.025.

always top up evaporated water with fresh water instead of salt mix.

when you change water (draining out one pail of salt water, pour back the same amount of salt mix / natural salt water back) so as the salinity wont change..
