awesome tank!

how did u managed to maintain your tank almost free of algae?

well.. not totally free of algae.. there are still some macro algae growing.. but i do have a refrigium that house chaeto as well as different snails, crabs, slugs that control the algae... for sand portion, i have sea cucumber, sand star and urchin to help maintaining the sand bed clean and also controlling my NO3 and PO4... to the min.. cheers

thanks bro.. the sps are from your frags.. but its color doesnt really brighten up.. with LED

haha

I have heard from both reefers and even LED suppliers themselves admitting that LED itself ( at least for those brand available in the local market) is not the most ideal lightings for SPS.

You need to supplement it with T5 to boost the PAR and intensity. Even so, the colour still will not match those brilliant colours punch out by MH

Treat others the way you wanna be treated...

I couldnt agree more but I guess I have to choose between colors and the heat output.. 1 thing i really like about LED is the heat.. use to have MH and the heat given out by the lights really heated up the room... with LED.. i dont have such problems..

in recent some of the suppliers did bring in some LED lights which is of other color spectrum.. wondering whether it would helps to bring out the SPS colors or not.. but guess will have to try it out myself and see how it goes...

which LED are you using?

btw, just realised your tank is 1.5 ft width ... wow.... your scape does not look so narrow and gives a certain impression of depth .... well done !

complemented by T5s?

the thing with MaxSpect is that the spectrum is rather "flat" and we are unable to tune the intensity of the blue over the white LEDs.

Also unless if you ordered the CREE upgrades, the SemiLEDs that comes as factory default drops its PAR approx 15 - 20% each year.

so if I recall correctly, by 3 - 4 year, the lightset has only approx 60 % of its original PAR value.

I cannot remember the specific detail but generally something along this line.

just something that might be good for you to be aware of and check it out if you are really going into SPS.

But it has been 12 - 18 months, my info might be obselete :P

thanks bro.. actually thinking of adding LED from Ecoxotic with blue and magenta .. but not sure whether it will helps with the light spectrum... at the sametime will wait for LED technology to improve further before changing into something else... i have use t5 and MH before for my previous sps tanks.. but the heat is really something not favourable... beside.. now going for mixed reef then pure sps.. as i have done that.... haha

wow big plans. nice !

totally agree on the heat aspect from MH.

not to mention that the chiller will kick in more often and hence generating more heat ....

sounds like another SPS master.....

sometimes I do wonder if I am putting myself up for ridicule for posting our ignorant thoughts... :P

profile wise... haha... I nvr notice it. but one thing I do know is that reefing is more fun with buddies and like minded hobbyists sharing a thought / discussion. frag :)

well.. not hidden dragons... lizard maybe.. haha.. and indeed it is really nice to know buddies and like minded hobbyist.. and last time.. in SRC.. we have regular outings and during those days.. really happening.. have alot of friends to chat with and at least there will be weekly gatherings to share and food together.. and during sps craze... u can see huge nos of reefers.. gathering in the early morning 1 to 2 am waiting for sps .. it was fun.. but as time passes.. the craze die down.. and alot of old timers decomm and guess that is normal.. as we just move on.. esp when priority shifted.. haha..

and bro.. trust me.. u wont be ridicule when u put up yr posting and even advise reefers.. cos it was your help and some of the reefers here whom keep on sharing their thoughts and knowledge which kept SRC alive and moving on... to be honest even if i have be reefing for so long.. there are many new and young reefers here who are more knowledgable then some of the old timers here (at least i m 1 of the slow learner).. haha...
