wanting to start

Recommended Posts

I have been wanting to start on a small saltwater aquarium but dunno how...

I have kept b4 freshwater aquarium.

Cos I heard that saltwater aquarium is more diff to kept n costly.

I would like to know, how much will it cost for a 1ft setup?

What are the things require?

How many pieces of fish max to keep in it?

I would like to keep it as low cost as possible and simply to maintain.

Thanks.

Depends on what you want to put inside and the cost will depend on whether you want higher end equipment or low end equipment.

If you want to keep it low cost, then use a hang on filter, a clip on fan to keep the water cool, a cheap china brand skimmer and PL lights. For this type of setup, you could probably keep some zoas, mushrooms and fishes.

You may want to look at some of the tanks in the nano section to see how people set up their nano tanks.

My Setup:

3x2x2 tank with IOS

Equipment List:

Chiller: Artica 1/5HP

Chiller Pump: Sicce 4000

Return Pump: OR3500

Skimmer: Deltec APF600

Wavemaker: Tunze Wavebox/2x Hydor K2/SCWD wavemaker

Lights: DElighting 2x150W MH + 2x 39W T5 Atinic

FR: Skimz

FR Pump: Atman AT-104

Tubby ATO, Kalkweisser Reactor with magnetic stirrer.

My take is if you have a hangon skimmer like the MCE or Prism, you would eliminate the need for a hang on filter.. less one device.

The all you need is circulation and lights..

For circulation, small wavemakers, even for good brands (Tunze, Koralia, etc) are pretty affordable. 1 -2 of these is sufficient.

Lights would really depend on what corals you intend to keep. Or even any. But with a tank that small, PL lights can sustain quite a number of coral types (eg normal Yumas, Mushies, etc).

Chiller would be very optional and also depending on the coral type you intend.. with such little equipment, temp shouldn't rise that high...

Why do we use "My 2 cents worth" when 1 cents are not legal tender in Singapore anymore? Shouldn't it be 5 cents worth?

+1

Since you are on a budget, go for either Prizm or AquaC remora 2nd hand. They offer so called all in one solutions in 1 piece of equipment at a reasonable price. Downside is they are known to be quite noisy.

For such a small tank, Just DIY a CPU fan to maintain temperature.

Things to take note of: Small tank, Smaller room for error, harder to maintain good water quality, more husbandry required, tank crash easier. So do read up more before plunging in!

which is pretty impressive. He had a ready setup in his shop. u can drop by to take a look :)

You are talking about the mini ELOS?

Friend, that thing cost a few thousands.

Certainly does not sound low cost to me.

Eqpt: Deltec MCE 600, Tunze 6055 with Tunze 7091 controller, Artica 1/15 HP chiller, AquaIllumination Sol Blue LED Light System

hehe.. maybe you can discuss a package without the LED lights and the Chiller.. surely will minus a few hundred bucks off.. those things are the bulk of the cost..

Actually yeah.. a nano setup no need for such package, though it would look nicer and lessen the need to look for parts and pieces..

The ELOS tank itself is also expensive. Still cannot consider low cost w/o the LED lights and chiller.

ELOS is nice, but not cost effective if budget is low.

Hello to all senior,

I am a newbie here, would need some advise in this new hobby.

1) Any recommendation of good and reliable aquarium shop to get my first start up.

Thanks and best regards.

Bro, would be better to start your own thread.

Take a look at our sponsors section, almost all of them do setup of tanks.

My recommendations are to check with Vincent from Aquarium Artist, Victor from Iwarna, Razali from DeLightings first before going to the biggies Aquamarin, and also Reefdepot.

What's your budget and space constraints?
