are they any chance that the zoas will build up enough immunity to fight off the pox on its own?

(without dipping)

nope. zoa pox is not a viral disease where the affected organism can build immunity over time. it is a bacterial infection, and immunity against bacterial infection is quite unlikely. there are however, some zoas that are less suseptible to pox. not sure why. in my experience, zoas with the eagle eye complex will get pox very easily, and also zoas that grow on a mat (like US zoas), also contract pox easily.

cheap indo zoas like gorrila nipples etc don't get pox in my tank.

eagle eye complexes include - eagle eyes, fruit loops, sunflower, keddredd, blue tubbs.. etc. similar pattern, polyp size to eagle eye.

zoapox is a very common disease amongst zoanthid keepers. bound to kena it at least once....

with patience and perseverance, this disease is easy to cure, albeit dam laychey and sickening because they can re-appear without warning. so once u get it, always check on your zoas periodically to make sure there is no re-surfacing of this disease. and always keep a well stocked supply of furan-2 at home. you'll never know when u will need it! i learned that the hard way -.-

Wah lao lemon..see lah ponteng more classes to chiong LFS..

Bacterial infection can build immunity, that's why antibiotics can be created. Viral disease is harder for immunity to develop, which is why there is no known cure for HIV.

Always something more important than fish.

Hahaha... :whistle

Some of my zoas are just... disappearing slowly, but they open up nicely, while the rest a ok. I'm still puzzled at this phenomenon.

+ 1, but i also believe what bro Reddevils mentioned about the salinity and temp which is the biggest challenge for me!!!! So it's quite high chance that it is due to this 2 factors that is causing the disappearing act for me.... not too sure for you, but worth giving a thought.

oh yah! omg to think i study microbiology summore -_-

ps ps. bacteria can develop immunity towards antibiotics. that's why if u dont finish your course of antibiotics, the bacteria will gain immunity and it wont be effective anymore. always finish it lol..

as for HIV...don't think there will ever be immunity or vaccine against it due to the very nature of HIV... it mutates with every cellular division and they have storage resevoirs all over the body. to elimiate HIV is to eliminate every single virus in the body...which...is impossible.

If a man could beat his own fantasy. Then to only breed in captivity. Then its pointless.

Genesis 1:20

And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that has life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven. And God created great whales, and every living creature that moves, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good. And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth. And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.

frm my experience on zoas, the inconsistancy in temperature and salinity and too low flow area tense to develop pox easily. temperature and salinity is the key point.

i would think low flow is a big cause to pox because whenever my zoas dropped on the sand bed and get swept to a hidden unoticable low flow area or get buried in the sandbed then poxs always appear , for mine temp and salinity are usually constant

so if you have a zoas that dropped or gets buried onto the sand bed , make sure you rectify it asap, for mine i noticed pox comes when discovered some frags that dropped from the mother colony and get buried , poxs usually will appear on those frags, thats y nowadays i always glue loose polyps to frag plus and put them in the qt tank or frag stand asap. due to my previous lazyness i have lost too much zoas, i also learned it the hard way. oh and i also noticed when i was running a ozoniser i dont notice poxs
