How to prevent Brooklynella

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Sadly two Allardi Clownfish died on me recently due to Brooklynella while the other two true percula remain active in the tank. All fishes are from coral farm.

i wish i could buy another two Allardi Clownfish but am afraid of them dying from the disease again. so what is your advice? buy after some time like 3mth?

i got a number of fishes so the parasite wont die off completely for sure.

Genesis 1:20

And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that has life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven. And God created great whales, and every living creature that moves, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good. And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth. And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.

how old is ur tank?

befuran will help. but u need to dip each day. if not getting better. dip every twice a day.

dip in 95% FW + 5% tank water or perhaps 100% FW. Previously i done 95% FW + 5% tank water for about 5-10min. shake the fish if they are restless and try to ly by their side. then i dip 30min of 5litre of tank water with 1 sacket (2g) of befuran.

my clowns were better by the 2nd day and started eating.

act fast, if not the fish might not tolerate the dip.

all the best.

Thank you for your detailed info. my tank is almost 1 year, i have fat blue/purple/salfin tangs and a few common wrasses, so the tank should be more or less stable.

just to ask, do you actually adjust PH of your FW dip? here is what i did,

1. add fish to a small container with little tank water

2. drip in DI water till 3L (it usually take more than 5min)

3. pour away most of the water, i.e. left with little water and the fish

4. drip in tank water till around 3L

5. add in 1/2 sacket of befuran, leave it for 30min

6. rinse in another container with tank water and feed with mysis shrimp

7. return to betta box

with air pump throughout the process. but they still died, maybe it's too late...

i shall be doing this to my new clownfishes b4 introduction to the main tank next time

1 year should be ok.

use betta box, observe for 4-7days

if have brook, it should surface during that period of time. observe closely.

yes i do adjust the pH, but if i did remember correctly, i didnt adjust the temp and pH at the later dips.

but still, dun take chance, adjust it. its rather easy if u got the buffer and equipment to do that.

and always aerate vigourously.

all the best for ur next batch.

Request for captive bred clownfish. That way you would'nt even need to deal with brookynella.

just to clarify, even if i get those captive bred ones, but since my water column already have the parasite, aren't they still prone to brookynella attack?
