how to set up 1 feet tank in office?

Recommended Posts

Hi experts out there.

I'm going to set up a 1 feet tank in my office, still can't decide what thing to add.

My office only function 5 days a week, and the air-con will only be on from 8am till 5pm.

i will only be using one pump that come together with skimmer(can't remember what brand)

And some left over tropical sand bed(Is it ok).

Anyone got any recommendations on:

1) fishes

2)corals

3)Amount of LR

Equipment wise, get a digital timer that enables you to preset specific days. That way, you can set your fan / chiller to switch on when the A/C is off, especially during weekends.

Auto top off will be key to maintaining evaporation rates. You'd be surprised how much water is lost per day even in an air-conditioned environment.

fishes.. should not be more then 4 small sized ones..

corals.. depends on your lightings.. softies will be a better choice..

LR.. not too much.. maybe 2 medium size piece is more then enough..

A man with a reef tank is a man with an empty wallet...

actually, while waiting for my tank to be done, my hand was very itchy....

i set up a 1 foot 2 gallon tank in my office. Fresh water of course...

you'll be surprised... the water doesn't really evaporate much... i hardly top up more than a small cup each week...

but the water does get very cold, it goes down to like 23 degrees when my room ac is on at 25 degrees

Thanks everyone,

What if i do not have lights?

Can i still keep corals?

If u can maintain the water quality, sure. For a 1ft cube, most lights will be fine. I'll suggest u to look at those HO LED lights due to almost no heat transfer. Start with soft coral of LPS before u attempt SPS. Do also read up on the requirements of corals like kH, Ca, pH, etc.

As for fishes, u should be looking at only nano fish like goby and the most a pair of clownfish (percula).

Cheers
