pure ignorance. please read up in future. its a bristle worm. they are good scavengers and do not harm fishes unless dead or dying. if you dislike, remove it and give me. don't kill it. :)

appreciate your help :thanks:

Like your scaping, Justin.

Reminds me of a canyon. Swweeeee.....

The anemone seems like a majano anemone.

They are considered a pest.

But these are not very reproductive.

Once they find a suitable location, they will stay rooted there.

If you do not mind, you can leave it alone.

I had 3 and got rid of 2 cause I needed the space. (my tank is a nano)

The last one standing is one of my luminous exhibit in the tank :)

Bristleworm - I had small fishes in my tank. I also have snails without shells in the tank.

None of them had been attacked by the bristleworm.

I know there are still 1 - 2 worms in the tank.

For my case, I'd just let them be.

Eqpt: Deltec MCE 600, Tunze 6055 with Tunze 7091 controller, Artica 1/15 HP chiller, AquaIllumination Sol Blue LED Light System

2011 resolution : Do it simpler, better and in an easier way!

A very good morning Jacky and :thanks:

I will leave the little miss majano alone for a while and see how it grows, as well as the sneaky mr. worm B)

I saw so many lifeforms brought to live after the lights off like a tiny snail hopping from rock to rock and a bug with black suit marching from left to right. Will take some pics if possible. This is fun :D

Hi Justin,

just checking, how is the 1/10 chiller coming along? does it work well?

the reason i'm asking is that i have a slightly smally tank from yours. It's a 3 by 1.5 by 2 with a sump tank, and i'm wondering if the 1/10 can cool the water well, or should i sell it away?

looking forward to hear from you.

I would advise against using a 1/10 Hp for your tank.. You are overworking the chiller thus lowering its lifespan, not cost efficient, running time is longer than non running time,(depends on the equipments you have and the heat generated)... You would do better with a larger HP chiller...

I think it takes less than 20 minutes to cool down from 27 to 26.5 (my setting), but not sure how often how it kicks in. Will have to monitor this wkend and see how. Worse case scenario, sell away here and buy 1/5HP.

:thanks: for your suggestion Terry :)

hi Terryz,

just wondering, would you have any experience on how "overwork" the chiller is?

ie how often it kicks in and for how long each time. Also, i kinda believe that these chillers are made to be able to run for than a few hours a day, to be honest.

from the JBJlighting website, tank size around 3 by 2 by 2, the recommended size for chiller is 1/10, which is the reason why i was looking for that size. Henry @ ML also confirm that 1/10 is sufficient.

I know you don't mean any harm, and in fact trying to help, but i am just wondering if 1/5 is a good to have or is a must.

I don't mean any offensive with this email, so don't take it the wrong way...

thanks mate...

The tip is dun make the decision to buy straight away...take yr time see see look look..have a coffee/ tea first, cool down, then decide whether to purchase. Sometimes, i get overly excited once step into LFS...buy already, then later regret shd not have gotten.

especially true when you could hardly find a place to mount your new purchase...

it depends on the number of equipments you have installed and how ventilated the position of yr tank is...assuming you only have the std equipments like skimmer and return pump and a couple of wavemakers and using LED ...hence, the LFS advice you 1/10 is enough...they r not completely wrong. main thing is you r using LED and not T5 / MH...very little heat is transfer from LED...the heat is mainly from the driver which does not affect yr water temp at all.

It really depends on the equipments you have.... I have not tried with LED... But with MH and T5s the heat from them is really hot...

Actually it is based on case to case, if you can keep the temp in range like Justin, I would say 1/10hp is enough..

But personally I would feel more better with a bigger chiller...

Yupz, I agree on this...

Bro, for JBJ website, you may wish to assess the volume of water and heat load stated and compare to yours. In general, a chiller seems to overwork by kicking in frequently(like every hour) and take hours to cool your tank. The kick in frequency can attribute from heat load in your tank and sump and the hours to cool your tank is likely to tell you whether the chiller is being stretched.

I used to run my artica 1/5 for 2 ft cube with sump, it take around 30 mins to cool down the water and take easily 2 hours to kick in again. Of course, other factors do come into picture, such as weather, direct sunlight, poor ventilation, etc.

I think bro terry won't mind as he is being helpful. Getting to meet up with senior reefers, many will advice 1/4 for a 4 ft tank. and if possible, 1/3. If possible, some reefers like to go one level 1 up for chiller and skimmer. Hence, to answer your question , is not a must.

In this hobby, IMO, no definitely right or wrong(for certain case) but you face the music if you dont follow the follow....like skimmer, some reefers dont use them and their tanks are in good state.

We are here to share and not giving order....lol. The ultimate choice is yours. Happy reefing and enjoy the exciting in setting up...it is just the beginning....the never ending road.....unless....decom....and never look back....
