wow bro you got the new Deltec skimmer! Great choice! Believe you will be one of the first few here to be using this skimmer, do give us a review on how it works! :)

Sounds like an excellent build you have there. Looking forward to your pics.

btw, chiller is 1/10hp? Sounds alittle underpowered for your tank size. Think you should be looking at least at 1/5hp or 1/4hp.

Edit: I believe Justin's Maxpect is the new 3ft series that Razali is bringing in, looking forward to tt as well!

Great choice of equipments... Seems like you've done alot of research before jumping into the hobby...

Your tank specs is one of my dream... =]

Is the Maxpect sufficient for your tank? I suppose you are planning for a mix reef tank?

hmm bro I strongly suggest against using the 1/10hp as you will find it insufficient for your 3ft. I was also considering the 1/10hp for my setup, but was persuaded against it. Most of the bros using the 1/10hp here are nano tank keepers with total gallonage almost half your tank size.

If budget is a concern, I would rather go for a cheaper brand like Hailea. This way, when you got more $$ in future, can get the arctica. :)

Hmm? if Maxpect is only 40cm, how to cover 90cm tank?

Eh Justin, you may want to consider comycus advice.

1/10 hp may take longer for your tank to cool.

I have not measure properly the time taken for 28 degree to 27.5 degree.

Could be 10 mins or more for my 2 ft cube tank with sump.

(-_-) Happy will do ... (o_o)

ya...that was wat i m puzzled too...can the maxspect cover 90cm?! unless combine with T5 and the maxspect is hanging on top.

chiller size a bit underpowered, unless you incorporate an additional blower / fan in yr sump to keep yr water cool coz the skimmer will transfer heat to your water hence yr temp can go beyond 30 degrees.

Hailea is really noisy and you can only set the temperature in 1 deg steps. Also, the temperature monitoring is not accurate. Your tank temperature is typically ard 1 degC less than what is indicated on the chiller.

My Setup:

3x2x2 tank with IOS

Equipment List:

Chiller: Artica 1/5HP

Chiller Pump: Sicce 4000

Return Pump: OR3500

Skimmer: Deltec APF600

Wavemaker: Tunze Wavebox/2x Hydor K2/SCWD wavemaker

Lights: DElighting 2x150W MH + 2x 39W T5 Atinic

FR: Skimz

FR Pump: Atman AT-104

Tubby ATO, Kalkweisser Reactor with magnetic stirrer.

Welcome to the hobby Justin. U hv chosen well in terms of equipment quality brands. Agree with the comments on chiller as well. You dont want your chiller to kick in every 15 mins so getting a bigger capacity is always better. Let us know how the LED works out as my tank is almost the same as yours and i'm thinking of switching to LED as well frm my ATI T5s ( which is doing an excellent job still ). Enjoy the beauty of the seas........

Main Tank : 48 inch by 36 inch by 28 inch (2 sides starphire glass)
Sump Tank :
Return Pump :
Chiller : Starmax Compressor 1 HP Drop coil
Chiller Return Pump
Protein Skimmer :
Wave Maker :
Fluidised Reactor :

Hi Justin, welcome to the hobby!

A word of advice for new tank startups - Add slowly. Control the temptation to imediately flood the tank.

May you have wonderful time staring at your tank like we do.

Enjoy! :D

Hard to control the temptation .... best is buy small small fish first

(-_-) Happy will do ... (o_o)
