pweesng
Hi guys, many of us will house the tank and the sump in a cabinet, and in the course of maintenance, we cannot escape from salt water being in contact with metal parts of the cabinet or rack. Short term exposure will result to these parts becoming rusty. Mid to long term exposure will result to the part be weaken, and some to a state of disuse. how do you prevent rust from forming on the metal, say hinges etc... etc... is there something we can apply to them that will prevent rust, and in the unfortunate even that some get into the water, the tank will not crash? SRC Member Thexder Posted January 12, 2010 SRC Member Share Posted January 12, 2010 Oiled them regularly. But then rust still forms in long term.
SRC Member digibee Posted January 12, 2010 SRC Member Share Posted January 12, 2010 I think not too worry too much about hinges rust. You can change it if it has rust too much. Quote () Happy will do ... (o_o)
SRC Member comycus Posted January 12, 2010 SRC Member Share Posted January 12, 2010 The most common form of preventing rust is to coat with a layer of oil/paint. Quote My old 3ft

fishiee
Ya. Oil, Paint, Varnish and if you are really serious, use a sacrificial anode. You can try and get plastic hinges or acrylic also. Those will never rust..hahaha...But they are quite hard to find...I think i have seen acrylic hinges in artfriend, maybe someone can call up to check?
